“OK Hotel but just lacked a few essential items”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We had the opportunity to stay for 2 nights in Milan at the Contessa Jolanda Hotel, we found this hotel was in a great location only minutes from the subway and 3 stations into Milan Central Station and it was very easy to find. We were close to many restaurants (approx 5 min walk) from the Hotel and there were also 3 - 4 supermarkets nearby. The down side to the Hotel was that we did not have a fridge in our room and that the air condictioner did not work very well and it bacame very stuffy at night and while we had a balcony and opened the door for fresh air we found we were eaten alive by mossies and were very thirsty with no cold drinks during the night due to no fridge. In the reviews that I had read of this Hotel I was under the impression that we would have a large room with a kitchenette, however this was not the case. The room was adequate and clean with a walk in robe to store our clothes and suitcases. The breakfast was very good with a large selection along with egg and bacon. I would recommend this hotel as good value for money but make sure you request a room with a fridge and airconditioning that works. They did also have access to the internet in the lobby.

Room Tip: Request a fridge

“Don't know how they call this a 4 star hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

I did not enjoy this hotel at all. Let me start by listing some of the issues I had:
- the lifts were not reliable. I tried going up to 8th floor for breakfast and the lift refused to go there. On other occasions, it would also just refuse to go to floor 0 or 4.
- Don't even think about ordering room service cos there is none. Don't understand how a hotel can get 4 stars when they dont offer this. You have to go to a restaurant across the street to get something to eat.
- Plastic cups are used for juice at breakfast. When you paying these prices, you can at least expect glass!
- The lighting in the room was a joke. You can't have the bathroom lights on together with any other lights in the room. So when my mate went to use the bathroom, I was left in the dark while sitting in the lounge area. I went to the kitchenette, switched on the light, and he shouted from the bathroom that he was now showering in the dark. Totally crazy.
- The fridge in the room was never restocked with water. I had to phone reception and ask for them to bring water - which they reluctantly did.
- The fittings in the room were ancient; from plug sockets, to tiles, to taps - felt like I was sleeping in a homeless shelter.
- Only 1 english channel on tv - CNN.
- Limited parking; battled to find parking in front of the hotel the one day. Parking is also not secure as it is right on the street
- When we went to check out, we wanted to split the bill between 2 credit cards. No chance of that, as they had already put the charge thru on the card I used to make the booking. No option given; we were just told that was that and to accept it.
- The general state of the hotel was not good. I was seriously concerned about the structural integrity of the place. Pieces of plaster and concrete are missing from stair wells all over.

We paid 700 euros for 5 nights and honestly left there feeling ripped off. I would NOT stay at this place ever again.

Room Tip: Get a room at another hotel.

“Fine hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

This hotel was fine. It was a bit far from center city, but was resonably priced and close to the metro. The directions to the hotel from metro were a bit confusing so I took the long way there. Once I found it, back and forth to metro station was easy. The room was nice and clean. The bed was nice and I enjoyed having a balcony. Wifi was expensive. Free breakfast was nice and the staff was friendly and helpful.

“All you need in Milan”

Wonderful hotel! Very big rooms, with kitchen and balcony. Clean and quiet too. Breakfast was varied ( if you get there early ) and delicious. The restaurant has got a delightful atmosphere, decorated as a little boat. Nice staff, especially a receptionist who spoke good Spanish. In the lobby, you can have a free drink ( coffee, tea or juice ) and a croissant. Close to metro station Maciachini, but it is better to ask at the reception for the shortest way. There is also a Lidl supermarket nearby, where you can buy food. Pay attention, the kitchen does not have any cutlery or dishes. Milan was gorgeous ( also because of this hotel ) and we are going to come back soon.

“Terrible Location, Good Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

You are in the slums of Milan if you stay here. Think of passed out homeless people on the park bench that is just behind the hotel. I didn't find it safe for my wife to be out alone in this area. The hotel itself is actually quite nice. We got a kitchenette with a descent size room (keeping in mind that it is Italy and every room is small). The front desk people are very helpful and organized. Descent weight room as there is a universal and a few cardio pieces.
