I tried The Gray as an alternative to my usual hotel in Milan, the STRAF (which is right opposite this one. First, the location, right next to the Duomo, cannot be beaten.
I only stayed for 1 night and didn't have time to check out all of the facilities, but from what I saw the public areas (lobby, bar etc.) are small but attractively designed in a minimalist style. My room was a decent size and nicely designed with plenty of storage space. The bed was very comfortable and the furnishings were very tasteful but the lighting was rather dim and the aircon was rather noisy. The bathroom was lovely.
Howvever, none of this justifies the price of the room, there was really nothing there that made the place special. Yes, the food I ordered from room service was nice, but for the astonishing price it had to be! The cheapest bottle of wine available was €55, the next cheapest was €70, and we are not talking about great vintages here. Finally, breakfast was priced at €57. It may have been a smörgåsbord of truffles and caviar, but I didn't pay to find out...
All in all, a nice hotel, but you can get a lot more for your money in Milan.
