This is the worst hotel I ever stayed in. Anyone who claims otherwise (I read the other reviews at this site) is misleading and I bet he's a messenger from the hotel. Don’t believe them.
Look at the pictures I took - there are no flow of water in the shower. The pillows and sheets were smelly. I asked for an iron but they don’t have one for the use of the guests. You can hear everything going outside. The neighborhood is frightening and that is an underestimate. Taking a walk at that neighborhood is at your own risk. There's no decent cafe or restaurant in the area. Downtown transportation is problematic; True that in day time one can take a train from the nearest station (bovisa) but at night it's another story and you need a taxi that costs - 12 - 15 Euros (no traffic). I paid 175us$ per night at this hotel. I read the other reviews and I was misled to believe in them. Don’t make the same mistake. Pay the extra 50$ and find other hotel.

Have tried staying in a one star hotel in Milan (terrible!!!); this one is pretty good considering the prices of hotels in Italy.

Good things: Near the Triennale Bovisa for people who like art, buffet breakfast, bed & room size
Not so good things: Quite far from the Stazione Centrale. From the airport though, there's a train that goes directly to the Bovisa area. You have to change into the local trains (not the Trenitalia ones) to get here. These trains close quite early (around 10) so if you want to party in the central area, this hotel may not be for you.

Before you book, consider, do you want to stay somewhere where everyone wakes up every time someone somewhere flushes the toilet! We were woken several times every night. The morning reception man was just rude when we asked for a hair dryer that worked. We were on the first floor, and had young men from the next room at the window when my wife was dressing. My colleague was on the second floor in something like a semi-furnished student room. Miles from the centre, but OK when Bovisa station is open... Never again!

I was attending a conference over a long weekend so was looking for a reasonably priced hotel with no frills as I would be out most of the day. I wanted it to be easy to get to from the airport and close to the conference centre (Milano Friera) and the San Siro Stadium. Valganna ticks the boxes.

Its 50meters from a main line station (Bovisa) served by the Malpressa Express which runs half hourly to the airport. The Friera is one station away and the second stop takes you to Cardona which is on the metro - perfect for sightseeing. Have to say the San Siro wasn't that easy to get to from here.

The University is nearby so the area is a bit studenty but I certainly didn't feel unsafe even when getting back at midnight. There are some great restaurants close by used by the locals, and a kebab shop opposite. I was a bit disappointed when they wouldn't let me take my chips up to the room!

The reception staff are fantastic with directions and general sightseeing help. Breakfast is continental and the coffee is not up to Italian standard but a cappucchino near the Duomo will make up for that.

Rooms are small and fine for a single traveller. Clean and well presented. The shutters will keep out street noise.You have to ask to have the AC turned on as I think they sometimes try and save on the leccie bill by leaving it off.

My friend stayed at The Grand Doria in Milan Centre which you might want to check out if you are planning a weekend break and want something a bit more luxurious near the shops.
