“Friendly staff, small but cosy room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

Clean room with tv, radio, air conditioning and linen towels(!). The shower was as small as it can be, but big towels were nice. Not in the heart of Milano, so it was a quiet hotel. Location was next to a metro station and 200 m from Lambart railway station. The room was so cheap, that only coffee and croissant was included, but for 2,50 € you can buy the whole breakfast.

“great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2008

We stayed there on 11/11/08 for 2 nites. Don't be fooled by the tiny entrance, once you are in the room its tidy and clean and its far bettter than the picture on the net. Thats what i am looking for a nice rest and sleep. The only negative point is the bathroom is too small for comfort. The location is a bit far from city centre but its only a ten minutes ride on metro and a 3 minutes walk from the lambrate stop to the hotel. very conveniently located and you can find some good food around where the local eats.The owner ,Angelo is very friendly and warm thats make my stay here even memorable but the same cannot be said to the guy at the reception in the morning.
Overall, its a pleasant stay and will stay there again in my next trip. Thanks, Angelo.

“Good Value in an expensive City”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2008

If you are after a good value hotel in Milan and don't mind not staying in the Centre of the City, then the Lugano is certainly worth considering. It is situated in a back street near Lambrate train station which is just 4 stops on the "Green" Metro Line 2 from Central Station (when you leave the metro train, turn left and use the back exit to the station which is just 2 minutes walk from the hotel). There are 2 supermarkets within 5 minutes walk of the hotel and some of the airport express coaches also stop near by which is useful.

The hotel does not look much from outside but the inside appears to have been freshly renovated. The staff were friendly and spoke very good english and the rooms that I saw, although small, were clean and seemed to have been newly furnished. I understand that the rooms on the top floor are let out to users of "Hostel World.com" and reviews on that website suggest that those rooms are much smaller and may have older furniture (but with lower prices to match !). However, unless you are intending to spend a lot of time in your room (in which case why come all the way to Milan), the normal rooms seem perfectly fine

If you are paying the normal rate, then a small buffet breakfast is included in the price but don't expect too much (tea/coffee, orange juice, Coissant, yogurt, cornflakes, cold toast, fruit etc). Hostel World customers only get a Coffee & Coissant in with their price. Hot drinks are available from reception at other times at reasonable cost.

A few points to be aware of...
- Although the hotel is situated on a side street, there seemed to be a lot of traffic using it as a rat-run. The rooms are not double glazed so if you are a light sleeper, ask for a room at the back.
- The reception of the hotel is actually in the basement which is only accessible from the road by stairs. However once inside there is a lift to all floors.
- An internet terminal is available at reception, but it costs 2 euros to use for just 30 minutes;
- During a 4 night stay, my room was only made up twice - this may be because I was late leaving on 2 mornings but whilst it did not worry me, it might upset others;
- The room I was in did have an air-con unit in it but the instructions looked complicated so if you think that you are going to need it, then ask at reception how to turn it on.

All in all, I think that with prices at less that 50 euros, the Lugano offers good value for money and I would certainly be happy to stay there again. However if you can find a good quality hotel for the same price nearer to the City Centre, take it !

“Good price-quality balance. Exceeded my expectations.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2006

My party, consisting of my two parents staying in a double bedroom and myself, staying in a single bedroom, stayed at this hotel for a few days for a short city trip. The hotel was located in a street that had just the right amount of liveliness to it: not too busy to be kept awake at night, nor too quiet to feel unsafe on the streets after sunset. The subway station ('green' metro linea 2) at 50 meters was extremely convenient. The hotel is advertised as a 3-star hotel, and, in contrast to what I expected reading some other reviews of this hotel, our rooms in fact had all the characteristics that you would expect of an average 3-star hotel: small mini bar (without content) in the room, airconditioning, TV. Both rooms we booked were clean and fresh, the bathrooms however were rather small, a little bit outdated furnishing, and aged toilet mechanics (flushing the toilet required some care). Most importantly in my opinion, however was that it was clean. Every day the room cleaned and towels were changed. We had requested rooms on the top floor, which was honoured. The double bedroom was very spacious, the single bedroom was a little bit on the small side, but it had a wonderful roof terrace attached (almost 30 sq ft!) to it, that was wonderful to relax on in the evening. During our stay there was a heat wave (average day temperature 34 degrees celcius (94 degr Fahrenheit)), and the airco in the single bedroom barely managed keeping the room liveable, given its exposure to the sun due to its top floor location; the double bedroom airco was adequate. The staff of the hotel, that I have seen, consisted of the receptionst who doubled as a breakfast manager and some cleaning ladies. All the staff were very nice and helpful. Room rates were in the forties and fifties euro and I would certainly stay there again.
