Unfortunately our stay in the Westin Palace Milan was less than satisfactory. Being an SPG Platinum member: this was unfortunate.
Upon check-in the receptionist did not recognize our status, further more she asked four times if my male partner and where sure we were OK with a queen size bed or wanted a twin room, we had mentioned the first time, we were looking for the best available room - hoping for a upgrade to a junior suite. It turned out however that not only where there no twin rooms available (which the receptionist had offered, and we denied multiple times), the best available room was a Grand Deluxe Room. The receptionist mentioned that the "hotel was fully booked for tonight" - upcon trying to book a junior suite sometime later online via SPG, we had no problem finding and securing one.
We needed to ask about our welcome amenity ourselves and when doing so the receptionist mentioned that "we usually provide the guests with the points", and reacted rather inappropriate when we mentioned we would like to have the bottle of wine: "oh".
The heavinly advertised sun lounge on the 8th floor was open, but there was no service available (it was 32 degrees Celcius on Saturday and 29 on Sunday). Moreover the area looked like it had been dormant for quite while, a suspiscion that was confirmed after finding Bottles of Heineken Beer in the (unlocked) fridges that had a best before date of 23/08/2010. After leaving the sundeck we were yelled at by a staff member who saw us comming out of the sun deck area saying "it is closed - no enter!"
In our room the telephone did not work, moreover the room was set up for one guest - not two - there was only one pair of bathrobes, and one pair of slippers. we were heading into the city so mentioned this at the reception. The (male) receptionist answered that "this should be in your room" - I mentioned it wasn't and was told this "would be taken care off". We secured late check out at 3PM sunday.
We were back around 5PM to not only find the items missing and requested still not in our room, but also find a bottle of wine with one glass. We went up to find some fellow Dutch guests who had themselves taken off the seatcovers at the sundeck, and decided to join them: they were also finding it rather strange that the sundeck was closed during these weather conditions, without any mention of this on the website nor the guest service booklet in the room. We enjoyed about an hour of sunshine and left the sundeck.
Before going back into the city, we decided to ask the reception again about the bathrobes, slippers and the missing wine glasses - this would be "taken care off".
Upon comming back around midnight we still did not find the items requested in our room. Moreover the sundeck was closed, as well as all the other F&B locations - we decided to take our wine outside and enjoy the temperatures outside, in the seating area near the drive way.
On the way out, we again asked the receptionist for another wine glass - we had given up on the bathrobes and slippers - he mentioned that, "I am the reception, I did not know you were missing anything" - and he would take care of it - the glasses took about 10 minutes to arrive, which was OK.
After comming back to our room around 2PM sunday the doors remained locked - we needed to go back to the reception to get new keys: there was no "we are sorry for the inconvenience" just a "what time will you leave" and a handing over of a new set of keys.
At 14:15 the roommate ringed and knocked on our door - the do not disturb sign had fallen down and she wondered if she could clean the room....
Upon check-out we were not asked how our stay was, were not wished a pleasent journey home, and where not thanked for our visit.
