Hotel Idea Corso Genova is an adequate sleeping factory with around 90 rooms in a residential area between Milano centre and the Darsena canal district. At Darsena you find dozens of cafés and restaurants. San Ambrogio is at 4 and the Duomo is at 12 minute walking distance.
Rooms are OK but far from spacious. Windows can be opened and rooms have air-conditioning. Beds are OK with furniture adapted to the very small room. Top floor rooms at street-side offer a nice view of the city and the Duomo. Patio-side rooms lack the view but are without street noise. Blankets are hardly adequate when you want to sleep with an open window on a cold January night.
Internet in the room is charged an outrageous 12 Euro a day. Good shower however the bathroom is rather small. The hotel is clean but definitely has had its best days. The cafeteria is very busy during breakfast, expect to queue-up for a table. Buffet style breakfast is OK and breakfast service is adequate and efficient. When you ask for an espresso or cappuccino at breakfast these are made to order.
The hotel has smoking and non-smoking floors. The elevators are very small, 3 person max. Corridors and elevator smell of cigarettes. Staffs were friendly and helpful. We were given a black and white A4 printed map of the city centre. The hotel can arrange transport to Linate airport for Euro 35. A taxi is less than Euro 25.
With Euro 80 per night for 2 including breakfast, the Idea Corso Genova was value for money. I would recommend it to all who seek a no-nonsense accommodation not far from Milano centre.
