“Best for business travelers, near the main train station”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

I've been at the Madison several times in 2009-2011, mostly during two/three night business trips to Milan, and recently for a 1 night stay for a trip which required a stop in Milan.
The Madison has been mostly renovated in the last two years. (Most) rooms are now stylish and functional, completely renovated. We did not book "superior" rooms in our recent stay, but both rooms had just been refurbished. Large beds, enough space and some nice touches like led lighting and a kettle complete the description. Rooms and bathrooms always looked clean.
Curiously, the hotel seems to be getting the facelift starting from the rooms, instead of beginning from the reception and shared spaces, so the first look is not very good.
Breakfast (which I enjoyed only during previous stays) is served at the top floor, in a large, bright room with a pleasant view, somethings rare in many hotels in Milan.
All staff people I dealt with were friendly; during my last stay, I left early in the morning, well before 7 am; after checking out I enjoyed a "light breakfast" at the bar, again a detail you may not be getting elsewhere in Milan, not at this price point. Price seems to vary heavily based on the dates of your stay, but the hotel is generally good value for money. Advance payment from the site gets the best rates.
Did not test wifi services, which look as a pay-per-use service.

The hotel is a 2 minutes walk from the railway station, which also is an underground station for two lines.

Should you get there by car you have to arrange for parking (reserve) in one of the few parking spaces available in the courtyard, and also be careful with local traffic restrictions/regulation enforced in Milan.

Avoid walking around the hotel at night, the station is definitely not a nice place to be later than 8 pm.

Room Tip: Not sure if the hotel renovation is complete, ask for a "renovated" room for best results!

“Convenient to train station but nothing special.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Staff was friendly but failed to repair the window in our room which was literally falling out of its casement. Management sent in a repairman while we were out to dinner. Upon our return we were informed that repairs had been made. A quick check revealed that a repair had not taken place, whereupon the always smiling and courteous desk clerk reversed his statement and said that it could not be done until the following day (which would be after our departure). No alternative room or apology was offered. Room was cramped with a shower that only trickled water. This condition may be common place in Milan but our one night stay gave us no opportunity for a comparison. To be fair, our traveling companions down the hallway had no such problems and were quite satisfied.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

“Convenient for Overnight Prior to Flight Departure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

This is the second time we have used the Madison Hotel at the end of a European vacation for an overnight stay before departing Milan Malpensa Airport the following day. It is very clean and comfortable, a 5-minute walk from the train station (and airport shuttle bus), and the staff is most friendly and accommodating. It is also a good value.

“4 Star ?.......would be a 2 star elsewhere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Firstly the staff are friendly enough and extremely helpful and can recommend a good restaurant nearby. The hotel is classed as a 4 star hotel but to be honest anywhere else, in my opinion, it would be maybe a 2 star hotel.
The rooms are very small compared to other hotels I have stayed in, but the single bed was comfy enough. No pictures on the walls so very minimalistic as far as decoration goes.

The good -
The staff are excellent
Breakfast is excellent

The bad -
- Don't be fooled by 'FREE' wi fi here, you basically get 200mb 'FREE' so you might be able to download the Google homepage and that is it !!....otherwise it is €7 Euros for 24 hours internet.

- The bathroom was ok, but why oh why do hotels have separate taps in the shower for hot and cold !!! . it takes ages to get the temperature of the water just right !!

- There is a small reading light literally right next to your head/pillow, the metal of which gets really, really hot, even before I turned it on there were severe heat/scalding marks on the wood....

- No foreign exchange

- You have to ask for tea/coffee for the room, this is supplied without any milk or creamer.

- One day the receptionist told me to ring their ISP 'Swisscom' as the wi fi wasn't working !

“Loved this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

I took a reviewers advice and asked for the 4th floor and the room was perfect. We returned later and had a room on the 3rd floor and it was nice too. The people at the front desk were very friendly and helpful and we had CNN and free wifi in the room. You have to walk 25-30 mins to the tourist attractions, which we needed to after all the wonderful food & wine, but you are 10 mins from the bus to the Airports and 5 mins from the central train station. Very quiet location with a couple of excellent restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: Maybe the whole hotel has be renovated but I would ask to make sure you have a newer room.
