“nothing special”

The Atahotel Quark is an out of the way hotel (out of the way not in the good sense) which really doesn't offer the guest anything terribly remarkable. The décor is dated and the property in general is a bit run down. The staff is friendly and the small bar in the lobby has good espresso. If you plan to stay here be sure to have a car, or at least enjoy a good walk - the closest metro stop is about a 10 minute walk (at a brisk pace). One plus - across the main road which runs in front of the hotel (via Virgilio Ferrari) is a wonderful restaurant with an outdoor area and fantastic food called Quattrocentro.

“What's with the A/C?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

We stayed here for just one night, the last night of a Trafalgar tour, so we didn't have a choice in picking the hotel. We didn't use the restaurant, so can't comment on that. The room was large, and the bed comfortable. Very clean. As a couple of other reviewers have mentioned, the A/C apparently was turned off (for the season?). In any event, we couldn't figure out how to turn it on. We had our window open all night, and didn't have any problem with mosquitos, as others have mentioned. I went to the fitness room to try to get in a 1/2 hour run on the treadmill, but I had to cut it short after 10 minutes or so, it was so warm in there! We took a walk around the area. The hotel is in a pretty desolate area that I wouldn't recommend walking around at night. During the day it wasn't too bad, and if you went off the main drag, there were actually some nice residential neighborhoods. It's about a 10 Minute walk to a tram stop. The nearest subway stop is further. The morning we left, our transfer was at 6am, so the hotel provided box (actually bagged) breakfast for the people on the early transfer, which was a nice touch, since the restaurant didn't open until later. We do not recommend this hotel for tourists, because you're not near anything.

“Ideal if you are at the conference centre on site; pointless if you are a tourist.”

I stayed here for four nights while at an academic conference. The Hotel is comfortable with large rooms but they are definitely dated (maybe from 70s or 80s?) and of course not cheap like all Milan hotels. Major problem was the air conditioning being switched off. I was bitten by mosquitoes (or maybe repeatedly by a persistent one!) as I had to keep windows open! Other guests were similarly bitten. When sporadically on, the ancient system was not efficient .But main problem was the location: the Hotel is in an industrial park bounded by a power station and water works and a bus, train and/or tram ride to Duomo and points central. Door to door about 45 mins /4 km with Milan public transport (15 euro in Taxi) Don't think of visiting local bars or restaurants: there are none. Evidence of petty crime in area also e.g. car windows broken. It is really desolate after dark in the Hotel vicinity. If you do stay here Tram out, Taxi home!

“Expensive - Trying to be something its not?!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

I stayed here last week for 4 nights on a business trip. I found the location to be really uncomfortable and although I'm used to East London I really didn't fancy stepping outside, it just didn't look a good place. Although I didn't pay I found the hotel very expensive and dread putting in my 800Euros expenses in! There's not many facilities here the restaurant is tiny compared to the size of the hotel the first night I had to wait only 10 mins but evenso, best to be seated earlier than later I found. The restaurant staff seemed very pleasant although I had to ask for a menu and their English wasn't brilliant. II also found the menu very very limited and the food wasn't what I expected to be honest I think the 42euro bill was a bit overpriced too. The drinks was expensive. Broadband too is very overpriced at 22euros for 24 hours (unlimited) although this seems to be the norm in Italy!
I fill sick on my last day and ended up staying an extra night, the hotel staff was very good and got me a doctor without too many problems and helped with payment too so well done to these, although the cleaners still came in even though I had the DND sign on the door. Room was good, huge, TV was poor only BBC world news which drove me mad! My air con didn't seem to work and I couldn't open the windows as theres was tons of mosquitoes about. My mini bar wasn't topped up every day and I didn't get a breakfast room service order menu after using the first one up and even after calling the bar to request one. I only had breakfast once as I didn't have time for breakfast in the morning and the room service breakfast was very limited. I'm back out to Milan shortly and really hope I don't end up here again. I just think its trying too hard to be something its not...
