I have stayed at StarHotels in Venice, Florence, Napoli and Rome. StarHotel Echo used to be called Starhotel Splendido. It used to be quite good but no longer.
We were checked into a suite which have a faulty alarm. The customer next to us told us that they have been hearing the alarm for the past 3 days and yet the front desk always promised them that it would be resolved but without any action. In fact, they said that the front desk staff were jeering at them and they could sense it from the phone.
We told the front desk about the alarm and the problem with our room. The front desk staff - Simone - instead of being helpful was very rude and even told us that if the person in the next room would tell us to jump, would we do it? We told him that if the alarm sounded in the night, we need to change room. Simone told us that there was no more rooms. He told us that they would look into the problem when we are out for dinner. When we were back, they told us that it is fixed. However, when we entered into the room, the alarm again sounded. We complain to another staff and was given a change from a suite to 2 other rooms. We told the staff that we would like to get back a suite the next day instead of the 2 rooms if possible for all of us to be together in the same floor - we were 5 persons.
When we were checking out, Simone told us that the first night was free but we have to pay for the next day. We told him that we have waited with our luggages packed for our rooms to be changed to the original contract. It is quite amazing that instead of apologizing for the poor service, they wanted to charge us more for a faulty room.
I have never seen such bad service before even as I have been to other Starhotels.
