This was a very pleasant surprise. It was the most expensive of our rooms in Italy, chosen because they were expansive in size, very well equipped and furnished, perfectly placed within a minute of the main shopping street and within 5min of the Duomo, and with good recommendations. It’s also close to all the cafes, the main train station, trams and buses. The suites are lavish in size and fittings (timber cabinets, double curtains, etc), overlook the street (can be noisy at evening and nights, and even at 4am when the diesel road sweeper roared back and forth 14 times to wake the neighbours up on Sunday morning) and come with free wi-fi, a big, soft bed and big armchairs. The bathroom - with a big bath - is also perfect. There is a lift (we were on the second floor) and for a bit of exercise, a curved staircase that edged a massive atrium. It was the only hotel where we didn’t specify secure parking - an unfortunate oversight because within an hour a group of youths smashed the car’s small quarter window and rummaged the glovebox and console. Nothing stolen - just inconvenient. Camperio staff Oxana and Luca quickly secured the car within their grounds and later within the proper park area. The lesson is to pre-book parking so the hotel can make space available. We walked everywhere possible in Milan and visited every church and took tours including the spectacle that is the Duomo. It is a city you must visit, but maybe just once. However, the hotel and the staff at Camperio were great. The hotel is pricey but worth it. You could possibly save the difference in taxi fares compared with a more out-of-city hotel because you can walk everywhere. Just remember that it’s within a part of the city that has no public car access on Sunday.
Room Tip: A room overlooking the courtyard could be quieter at night.
