We have just returned from staying in an apartment on this very much a working farm. We stayed in a very large self catering flat and the rate for 7 days was about £550.00 at the height of the season.
The farmhouse is in a smallish village about 7 miles south of Lake Garda. Easily accessible and routes good. Solferino has quite a few facilities, bars, pizza places etc. There is a large coop supermarket about 5 miles down the road, cash points etc. Also off the autostrada there is a larger shopping centre.
Anyway, back to the review. Our apartment was upstairs, two flights no lifts. Large kitchen diner (4x5m I reckon) only one sofa which was not an issue as there were plenty of dining room chairs to sit on. This was a bed settee so not too comfortable to sit on as fairly old.
No kettle, which seems to be usual in Italy. There was also no cooker which meant that cooking was a bit difficult. This did not affect us as we ate out, but it might be worth considering. I believe that some of the rooms have a microwave, it might be worth asking about a cooker when booking.
There was a double bedroom and one twin bedroom. Bathroom and shower room. Some towels were provided and all bed linen. Plus the beds were quite comfortable.
The farm is split into two sites. Apartments/rooms/breakfast eating area/gym and Pool/Riding school/Restaurant/Cafe. The pool is a pleasant five minute walk up a single track road. Changing facilities/toilets etc are all up there
I thought for the time of season and the facilities that it deserves at least four if not five stars. Not having a cooker in NO WAY detracted from our enjoyment, but it might others, some people we mentioned it to thought this a big no no.
Excellent location for touring, Verona, Brescia, Bergamo and all of the lakes are not too far away. Some fantastic local villages and my one tip is to check out Cascina Capuzza for a mega evening meal.
