- Rechigi Hotel Mantova

We stayed at this hotel last week.
It was overpriced. Cean and tidy but boring. No value added by the staff.
I stayed at the Rechigi for only one night, thankfully. The entrance is impressive, all marble and "boutique" sculptures. This is where the experience ends, as the rooms are terrible and the bed is like sleeping on a board. The Hotel presents 4 stars; however, this is no way a 4 star hotel. The rooms have all the trimmings of a 4 star hotel: named towels, pillow cases et all, however the room and the furnishings are "pension" style and the sleep (which is what you want in a hotel) is terrible. The room I was in (and the one my colleague was in) has shutters that were rattling all night in the wind, so this had an effect on your sleep. The furniture and carpets were poor and the bathroom was very small.
I would not recommend this hotel or stay there again. The town looked really impressive when you approach it over the river, I would have liked to spend some time to look around, however, in a different hotel!!
Stayed here for a week as my partner was working in Italy and the location was good for me to amuse myself in the day. The breakfast staff were friendly, but reception were so arrogant!
Don't whatever you do, is have any laundry done here, you will need a bank loan! And it took 4 days, not 1 day as it advertised.
The room we had was very poor, not normally used. But to be fair they were fully booked and we took it just because of the location, but we still had to pay full price! I came home before my partner, but he still checked out the same day as I did and found another hotel due to the arrogance of the staff. Silly really as they could have had another 2 weeks stay from him, if they had been a bit more friendly.
Still enjoyed my stay in Mantova and had some lovely meals in various restaurants, but I wouldn't stay here again!!
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night on a stop-over on the way north, in the middle of a heatwave in August. We opted for the slightly more expensive superior room for 150 Euros and were not disappointed. The room offered modern design, perfect practicality and powerful air-conditioning. The whole hotel is definitely for you if you are interested in modern design (Le Corbusier cube chairs and white marble in the lobby, art collection in the staircase), but we also got very friendly and helpful service from the reception staff and the breakfast staff, a spacious underground car park, a central location perfect for sight-seeing and a charming continental breakfast (heart-shaped doughnuts!). Highly recommended; we were sad to leave.
I've just read the reviews from talkative in 2005 and sadly have to agree entirely with that review. 5 years on and the place is still grim, grey and lifeless. We arrived by train and walked into town. The tourist information will not advise on which hotels are good or bad, they will only give you a list of hotels and B&Bs. This hotel is great for location, but that's about it. The place was empty and mid-March is off season, but they still hit us with a 130 Euro price for one night, which is more than we paid for a 4 star Marriott in Milan! At best, this hotel is 3 star. I'd love to know how they keep a 4 star status! There is no gym, no pool, nobody in the bar. The room had grubby carpets and walls, curtains and bedding were dingy, one thin pillow each and it was all very grey and bleak. There is a fridge but no mini bar. Just two bottles of water at 2 Euros each and a note saying that if we want the mini bar, we can contact the desk and ask. Staff were just as grim and unwelcoming and the breakfast was pathetic. Give this one a miss.
