“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We saw La Villa on Tripadvisor and went there. The owner, a unique woman, was an excellent host in any way. Her attitude towards us was fantastic. The breakfast was fantastic and when we left she even gave us some of the excellent cakes she hade made. The place itself has a superb standard and is clean. La Villa is a restored 200 years old building. We are sure to return, whenever in the region.

“If you don't mind driving into town, this is the place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

When we do a short city break, we like to arrive and forget the car. La Villa is 2.5Km (5 to 15 mins depending on traffic) to historic Modena where parking is not simple.
Having said this, this old farm house with few rooms named after major painters is magnificent. The rooms are wonderful and the peace at night incredible. If you like cakes, the breakfast will make your day and the service is friendly and discreet.
Magnificent hotel and magnificent value, as long as you don't mind driving into town

Room Tip: back of the house so that you don't hear the main road

“Be Careful of the Gate Code”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed here for one night in October, 2011 and they get a lot of things right, but we did have a problem. First the problem--when we checked in the owner wrote a code down and said you'll need to enter this to open the gate to the parking lot and the front door to the hotel after hours. Fine, so we are returning from dinner at 10:30 or so, and the code doesn't work. After trying multiple times and various configurations and getting quite frustrated for about ten minutes, the owner came flying up and let us in. She needs to pay more attention to writing it out more legibly and maybe walking customers through the process, showing them how to do it and making sure that they can read the code and that it works upon check-in.
That being said, Anna did everything that she could of to apologize, and the Residenza is a lovely small hotel, with large, well appointed rooms and a wonderful breakfast in the morning. Fresh baked goods of various sorts, meats, cheeses, fruit etc. I believe it is fairly new and there are a few improvements that could be made--the wifi wasn't working upstairs well enough to use, I think that one light switch controlled both bedside lights so that when my wife wanted to sleep, my light went off as well. Great bed, which is very important to us. Anna clearly cares about her business, and I think it will grow into an ideal place to stay.

“Perfect place, best if you're driving”

La Villa is located away from the medieval walled city of Mantova, but it's well worth the trip! The 17th Century building has been delightfully modernised with appealing and quirky design details. The original decorated ceilings and exposed beams remain. Peace, comfort, hospitality and wonderful breakfasts await you. Thank you Anna and Roberto for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable.
