“Nice clean basic hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Nice basic hotel close to the lake shops and cafes. Staff friendlly and helpful - lent us umbrellas when it was raining. Breafast was typical of europe but with unlimited tea and coffee - so much cheaper than eating in nearby cafes. We had a room at the back so was
fairly noisy but not enough to keep you awake.

Room Tip: Rooms at the fron would be wuiter as railway very close

“Lovely family hotel, offering good value.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

Good location, short walk to the centre of Stresa.
Located midway between town and cable car.
Stresa is the perfect location for sightseeing around the lake.
Approximately 75 meters from the lake, we paid for a room with a lake view.
Breakfast fine, typical breakfast for continental Europe hotel.
Good place to relax after sightseeing. Not grand like some of the hotels on the lake front but if you are looking for a good location, clean rooms and filling but basic breakfast stay at the Hotel Boston.

I can not understand all the good reviews this hotel has. This hotel is the 1 reason my boyfriend and I will never stay in another 3 star hotel.

These are the facts -

When in your room you can hear everything - I mean everything next door - we heard a person going to the loo from start to finish, and undoing a suitcase. Everytime someone flushes a loo near you you can hear it very clearly. There is no carpet in the rooms, so any person walking around can be heard very clearly. The doors are like prison doors and so everytime anyone leaves their room you can hear this, basically the noise does not stop from morning till night.

Our bathroom smelled horribly and while it did look clean, it left me with a horrible feeling of not being clean myself and desparetly missing my own cleaning routine.
The towels provided are not actual towels - they are the same material you would use as a table cloth.
The room was basic, it did not feel at all clean, although it probly was, (I have no evidence that it was not clean - more of a general feeling) all the furniture is very tired and old, having said that the bed was definately comfy which meant a good nights sleep besides the noise. But not homely, you can feel that you are only seen by the hotel as cash and this is a business, rather than a welcoming place to rest your head.

We were in Stressa to attend a wedding, we asked at the desk if there would be somebody there to let us in at night time, we were told we needed to be back by 1am becuase the hotel closed at this time.
This was very upsetting and stressful (neither of which you should be made to feel by a hotel) , we did not want to come all this way and have to go to the wedding with a curfew hanging over our heads, we queried this the next day and were told this is incorrrect and a bell is on the outside of the hotel for coming home late at night/ early morning. This whole experiance was a bit ridiculous and not what you expect from a hotel.

Overall I am a bit suspicious of the 3 stars awarded to this hotel. It certainly does not meet my own expectations of a 3 star hotel and I would not advise anyone to stay here. I think if there had been more true reflections of the hotel on Trip Advisor we would not have booked this hotel and would have had a better experiance, so I hope this horrible experinace has a purpose and can be helpful to others.

“Well located, fairly priced, and professional staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2010

We arrived two days early for our reservation. The hotel was very helpful in securing a double-bed room, and we stayed 4 nights. Stresa was the most restful stop on our tour of 2.5 weeks. The hotel apologized for the smaller room, and double bed instead of twin beds, but it was their only room available. Others are larger, some with balconies and lake views. The breakfast was generous and the server upbeat and friendly. The front desk staff volunteered numerous tips of what to see and do. A short downhill walk from the train station, no cab is needed. Clean, professional, the hotel was a real bargain.

“Nice Hotel, but could have found others”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

My husband and I traveled with both set of parents on a 2 week driving tour of Italy.

We went to Stresa since it was close to family we were visiting in the area. The town is amazing and the sites on Isola Bella are not to be missed. We could easily have extended our stay here from 2 nights to 1 week.

I chose the hotel Boston because of the price and the fact i was able to book it online. The rooms were as I expected, simple and utilitairan. The showers were small as I knew ahead of time but my in laws were surprised by the how small they were. Most of us showered with the shower doors opened bc of how cramped the shower was. There was a lot of street noise, but we had our windows opened so that was to be expected.

When we return to Stresa we will probably stay in a hotel in the center of the square. I was surprised by how many hotels were in town - I limited myself by using only hotels that were available on travel sites such as hotels.com. It isn't a bad hotel, I just would prefer something else next time.
