“Lovely views of Lake Maggiore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for an extended weekend in April 2011. Our room was towards the back of the hotel with a view of the gardens. Although the room was small, it had everything you need and the wardrobe was large enough to accommodate our stuff. It was also very clean.
The buffet breakfast offered a great choice of food and you can enjoy lovely views towards the Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands. The surrounding garden area is lovely and very well kept.
If you get a chance you should also try out the Spa. I had a massage and a manicure here and was very happy with the services provided. The spa staff was very friendly. The spa area seems to have been built/redecorated not so long ago.
The only downside of the hotel – if you can actually call it one – is the distance to Stresa downtown. The town is lovely and offers a great choice of little restaurants. However, I would recommend you take the car although it’s only a 5 minute drive. I would usually walk to the center, as it’s not a great distance. However there are no sidewalks most of the way which makes walking quite dangerous, especially at night.
We really enjoyed the stay at the hotel and would definitely consider returning on our next trip to the area.

“Beautiful”

Very nice and traditional for the area. Main reason for the choice was The Grotta - the Spa - that is actually quite small and though very beautiful, personally I found it limited, in 15 min is all done.the restaurant is spectacular, so is the luxurious breakfast hall with large windows overlooking the Borromean islands. Breakfast and service very very nice .

“Yes it is a Wedding Venue!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

I agree with previous comments on this Hotel - we had five weddings in the first 8 days of our stay. On one day even the pool area was being used so we were banned from the pool!! Each evening, when a wedding took place, we had to eat in a different part of the Hotel - even in the corridor. Our room overlooking the entrance and car park was small with insufficient wardrobe / drawer space bearing in mind that we had booked for two weeks. The hotel is in a beautiful spot overlooking the lake, the food is excellent but the holiday experience was totally ruined by an over indulgence of weddings, where hotel guests definitely take second place to the wedding guests. Even when we could eat on the terrace we were surrounded by wedding guests out for a smoke!! On our last day we even had about 8 track suited wedding planners at the hotel organizing another large wedding for that week-end. Not what we expected from a five star hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not over the car park - the wedding guests leaving the hotel can be very noisy.

“More a wedding venue”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011 via mobile

Following other reviews regarding the weddings, we thought we were safe staying on a Monday and Tuesday but sadly not. A wedding was in full swing when we arrived. Our room had a 'Park view' and had a very good balcony. Considering the cost, the room was pokey to say the least, gaudy decor, small bathroom with very small bath and inadequate shower, lovely Aqua de Palma toiletries though.

We went downstairs to the bar but the wedding was in the large, main restaurant and was spilling into the bar area. We asked if we could go on the terrace and we were escorted through the restaurant onto the terrace to table to enjoy the breathtaking view. The wedding cake was then brought out followed by the wedding party who surrounded us, we then managed to fight our way back into the bar/lounge area and ordered more drinks. We were then asked to move so that the table with wedding favours could be positioned. My husband was furious and we went back to our room. Dinner was only available in the expensive a la carte restaurant ( which was worth the money and delicious). The hapless staff were juggling a big wedding event and trying to keep disgruntled hotel guests happy.this hotel needs to let hotel guests know in advance if they have a wedding on and offer to reduce cost of room because although this is a five star hotel, with a wedding going on the service and amenities reduce to a three star hotel.

On the up side, the €30 breakfast was exceptional for Italy with an excellent selection. Dinner in both restaurants was again, exceptional, the pool area is lovely and serviced extremely well. Charming staff everywhere, mini bus transfer to Stressa very useful. My recommendation would be, make absolutely sure there is no wedding on, and they have a lot apparently. Otherwise I would recommend this hotel for the food and position on the lake. Splash out on a lake view room!

“The Ultimate Breakfast Buffet Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

This is a beautiful high end hotel with spectacular views. The breakfast buffet on the outdoor terrace each day was spectacular. The breakfast staff catered to your every need and the food variety and selection was very good. We had an upgraded room overlooking the lake which provided great views but the room itself was very small...tight to even walk around once your bags were in the room. The marble bathroom was spectacular. There was free "wi-fi" but you had to re-register for access each day at the front desk...annoying. The hotel is located just far enough from downtown Stressa that walking was not an option for us. The hotel runs a free shuttle at certain points during the day but if you want a pick up or drop off during the off hours the hotel charges 12 Euro per trip. The bell hop people were very nice and helpful. We toured the spa which was very nice but did not use the service. Would not recommend this hotel for families with children. Although we enjoyed the Aminta experience, would probably try a different less expensive hotel closer to town for our next visit.
