“Certainly NOT a 4 star hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

I booked directly with the hotel specifically expressing that it is our 10th wedding anniversary and requested a lake view room. They confirm Double room with balcony and lake view. When we arrived it looked like a 2 or 3 star "package" hotel. Good location with 5 minute walk to main area. Room dismal, dreary, balcony overlooked street where if you crane your neck round you may see some water in the distance. TV didnt work, side lights flickered, no tea/coffe making. Asked to move rooms to one with a view and was told fully booked only to find out the next day they had plenty of rooms! Asked for pint of lager & vodka & tonic. Ran out of lager and vodka. They asked if we were staying one or two nights and we jumped at the opportunity to "get out of there" and checked into a lovely 3 star hotel Paul down the road with huge balcony overlooking lake.

“Great Location Very Friendly and Helpful Staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2009

We spent three nights at this hotel, the room was decent, and clean. The AC is strange as it only seems to operate for 10 seconds at a time but it does cool the room. The best thing I can say about the hotel is that the staff is very friendly and they do their best to resolve any issues. If I was in the area again I would probably try another hotel. The location is fine a short walk to the Old Town.

The Chef puts out very good food. Tomas was our waiter (seems to work 24hr days). He really goes out of his way to be sure that the customers get great service.

Breakfast was not very good, no granola or other whole grain cereals. Juice comes from a machine. They don't do American Coffee very well and don't expect decaf. If you like Coco Puffs and other kid cereals you will be happy. They do have the ham and cheese and rolls to make a breakfast sandwich.

In all fairness to the hotel October is the end of the season it may be much better in season.

Again, very friendly staff that tries their best to be very helpful!

Hope this helps.

“Shabby hotel, car park views and no sound proofing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2008

I think the main problem with this place is that it sells itself as a 4 star hotel which it really really isn't. The room itself was well proportioned - spacious for two people. It must have been redone fairly recently but it was still shabby. Acceptable for a 2 star place perhaps but not at the price and rating it uses.

We had a view of the lake, though you had to block out the coach park between the hotel and the water. The sun over the lake in the morning was truly spectacular - one of the highlights of our trip.

I think the worst thing about the place was the overbearing smell of old cigarette everywhere (except in the bedroom). Coupled with the tacky 80s furniture and lights, it made the place feel a bit grim.

We did see a hotel on the other side of the historical town that has stunning views over the lake, and looked very nice as well: Hotel Ideal. If we ever go back to Sirmione I will definitely be looking into that place.

  • Liked — The view (ignoring the coach park in front of it)
  • Disliked — The faded tacky decor and stench of old cigarette

“Great Location - Tired Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

Hotel is well located but in need of refurbishing, the rooms were a good size but felt dingy and unwelcoming. Furnishings were dated and carpet in our room was stained. However the sheets and towels were always clean and fresh. The bathroom was fine apart from the seemingly obligitory broken shower head bracket. Beds were comfortable, we were disappointed not to have Tea Making facilities in the room though. The pool was OK, but the pool surrounding area is very small (room for a sunbed at either end but only about 18 inches along the length of the pool on the far side), views from here were good. The pool walls were also badly stained all around where the water level meets the pool walls. No facilities for Snacks or Drinks at the pool area. The staff in the hotel were friendly, especially the breakfast waiter who went out of his way to be pleasant, (incidently, there are more rooms than tables in the breakfast room, so you could be kept waiting for a table). the receptionists were very nice apart from one who often appeared to be arguing with other guests when I visited reception. Overall, hotel is fine if you're after a good location and somewhere to sleep, but not if you're after a bit of luxury.

“Baia Blu - Falling Apart!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2007

The Lonely Planet promised lake views from every room so we booked a 145 Euro room from Treviso. We arrived and found No views and that the place was falling apart, no lights worked in the room. So we moved. Again no lake views and again, some (but not all) lights not functioning. For such a light and beautiful place (Sirmione) the room and entire facility were dark and depressing. There are 1980s key card consoles installed outside of each room but they were somehow abandoned so one is given a key for the room and a laminated card for the thingy one normally inserts their hotel key card into to turn on the lights. During a haircut with the local barber we learned the the owner had had a family crisis a year ago (which is awful) and since then has let the place go. I would not stay here again.
