“A Gem of a Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

We had a wonderful two weeks at the Hotel Aurora. Christina and Nadia made us very welcome and were extremely helpful. The hotel itself is modern and very clean, as are the grounds. It is close enough to the Old Town to walk in each evening, but far enough away to be quiet and traffic free. Our room had a balcony overlooking the lake, on which we spent most evenings, as it was easier to buy food and wine from the supermarket, than to eat in the busy restaurants of Sirmione Old Town. One of the most relaxing holidays we have had for a long time and we look forward to returning next year.

“Fraud to credit card”

Following some some good reviews, I booked in Hotel Auroral in July 2011 via booking.com and I suffered a bank fraud the day after my booking via visa card. The fraud related to 1.088 euros charged in my Visa by buying in a supermarket (Mercatone Uno) very close to Hotel Aurora. Neither the staff nor the management iniatiated any investigation to give me a comprehensive explanation concerning what could have happened. They did not have any compensatory mesuare with us. The hotel service is, in general, OK, but this incident surely had an impact in our perception of it. I should say that this is the first incident I should reported regarding an online booking after many years of following this approach to travel and being a very satysfied customer of Trip Advisor and Booking.com

“Best hotel out of five”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We stayed at five hotels during our trip in Italy.
We payed Extra for the view and it was well worth it . Service was excellent as well as the parking ability of the receptionist. We got out car stuck because of the small parking area but she was kind enough to get us out ,so KUDOS. you don't pay extra for parking like other hotels we stayed in . The hotel was clean elegant and simple.
nothing more was needed much better than 4 star hotels we stayed at.

“A missed opportunity”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

Superb, modern hotel, very tastefully renovated, but let down by a few niggly problems.

The hotel's best two features are:

1. excellent location (apart from busy road) BEFORE you get into the very congested city centre, meaning parking, access, etc. is good.

2. the well designed and maintained lawn area with plenty of seating, sun loungers, etc. on well-kept grass. There is also a nice jetty from which we were able to take a boat to the old town and bathe occasionally.

However...

I had booked a luxury room overlooking the lake, but when we arrived I was told a lake view was not available, so we were given a room overlooking the busy road. This meant it was too noisy to leave the doors open at night, and as the A/C was even louder, we effectively had no ventillation at all. The A/C could only be turned off by calling reception and asking them to do it on their computer.

I also agree with the reviewer who said the luxury rooms are not luxurious. They are tiny, particularly the bathroom which was so small I had to sit on the toilet diagonally to avoid my knees digging into the tiling on the wall opposite.

The Wifi was out of order and the cable connection in our room was very expensive. The fridge was only cool rather than cold and the breakfasts, while copious, were VERY POOR for a hotel like this. Cheap bread, plastic cheese, orange juice out of a bottle, no eggs...

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but it could have been a lot nicer with just a little effort to get rid of the niggling problems.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms overlooking the busy main road

“Luxury rooms are not luxury”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

We booked a luxury room with lake view via internet 8 months in advance. We had specifically requested a room with two beds and discovered upon arrival that the hotel does not have rooms with twin beds. The hotel staff did not bother to inform us about this in advance. The luxury room was small and the comfort is comparable to that of a standard room in a 4 star hotel. We had two large suitcases and found it extremely difficult to give them a place on the floor when opened. Although we booked a luxury room with lake view, the room had only a small window in the corner of the room with a limited view on the lake. The pictures published on the internet are highly misleading and show a large window overlooking the lake. Although all standard rooms with lake view have a balcony, the luxury room we stayed in did not have a balcony. The hotel seems to have luxury rooms with balcony and frontal lake view but, according to info we recieved from the receptionist, these are luxury suites and NOT deluxe rooms. The rooms shown on the internet booking site did however not differentiate and showed pictures of a so-called luxury suite when booking a deluxe room. The air conditioning in the room was very noisy and did not meet the standards expected from a luxury room. The breakfast was standard quality.
In case you like a room with lake view and balcony I would not recommend to book a luxury room with lake view but a 'standard lake view room' since a luxury room is not worth the extra money paid.
