We stayed at this hotel because of all the good reviews. This hotel, although it states that there is a lift, it does not state that it might not go to where your room is located. We were on what is called the 3rd floor but had to walk down a flight of steps to get to it. The train station is more than a 5 minute walk because I timed it. The street that the hotel is on is very dirty. The walk to the old town is short depending on which way you go. The breakfast is not wonderfully great but ok. The rooms are very clean. The internet is almost non exsistent and if you rely on that to do online banking, forget about it. If having to go to Como again, I would definately try to choose a cleaner location. I do not recommend this for anyone with children.

The Borgovico Hotel had a lot of satisfied travelers so we had high expectations. When we first found the Hotel it looked ok but nothing more. We had a friendly guy that helped us to room 311. Room 311 surprised us in a great way. It was a romantic and a beautiful room with a spacious and clean toilet. We enjoyed the short walk to lake Como, close by parking and a good breakfast.
In all we are happy that we stayed in Borgovico and we recommend it highly. The only cons were that nearby trains made some noise but nothing disturbing.

Look, Como is not exactly the most exciting place in the world. Sorry. But this hotel is really, really wonderful. We stayed in the deluxe double room. This room is separate from the rest of the hotel. You have to walk through the hotel lobby, past the bar, through the back door, through the courtyard and up the stairs of a house. The room has a loft and separate bed on the loft. Personally, I would have organized things differently and put the living room upstairs with a pullout couch and leave the downstairs for the bed. Breakfast was quite good. Hotel is near the train station, but when you travel with kids and it is raining it means you have to take a taxi. Taxi ride length? 2-4 minutes. Price? €15. No joke. Staff very helpful. When we had to end our trip abruptly they kindly cancelled the reservation at no cost to us even though we cancelled the same day that we were leaving.

We spent a week in Como at the beginning of October and chose the Borgovico because of all the good reviews. We weren't disappointed - it's well situated on a reasonably quiet street, with comfortable rooms, a decent breakfast and extremely friendly, helpful staff. We were particularly impressed by the lovely man on the reception desk who tried (in vain!) to find a way for us to watch the Scotland v Liechtenstein game during our stay. The restaurant right next door to the hotel is excellent, so if you come back tired after a day's sightseeing there's an easy and enjoyable dinner option right on the doorstep.
This isn't a fancy hotel - it's small, friendly, comfortable and in a good location - but if gimmicks like a trouser press and room service matter to you, it isn't for you. We loved it, and would happily stay there again.
One bit of advice - when planning our trip we found it really tricky to figure out which station to get off at for the hotel. Having visited, I now know where the confusion comes from! Como has two railway stations. The main one, San Giovanni, is just a five-minute walk from the Borgovico. The second station, Como Nord Lago, is on the lakeside just along from Piazza Cavour, and - this is the important bit - THEY ARE NOT LINKED. Trains from Milan city arrive at San Giovanni; trains from Malpensa airport arrive at Nord Lago (confusingly also known as Ferrovie Nord or Como FN), which is a good 15 minutes' walk from the Borgovico.
