We stayed for 2 nights in Albergo Posta and weren´t satisfied with that hotel. Although the rooms are not dirty, they are old and shabby and the carpet is full of stains. In our room the shower did not work at first (we had to wait one day to have it fixed which was especially annoying after a 5h travel), the windows did not close properly and the electric sockets were falling out of the wall...We had the impression that the owner wanted to get the most money possible with the least effort because I personally don´t think that any of the rooms has been renovated in the last 50 years.
On the positive side we have to say that the hotel is in the heart of ancient Como and just 2 minutes walking distance from lake Como. The breakfast is good and plenty and the staff is friendly.
All in all the hotel is much too expensive (we paid 90 euros/night/double room) for what you get.

I have booked and fully prepaid 3 rooms for the dates 15 to 18 June 2011 with this hotel by mail. During the processing and after the completion of the payment I haven’t receive any terms of booking or cancellation policy, as well as a notice that the rate is non-refundable - just an invoice after all. But the booking was made by mistake, since there are 2 hotels on Lake Como with exactly the same name Albergo Ristorante Posta. What we have found out upon arriving at the hotel. We canceled the reservation being sure that the cancellation fee would be the cost of first night stay only, but the payment for the second and third night will be refunded. But the hotel refused to provide any refund without a reason. Based only on the possible loses due to inability to accommodate on the same date a group of 50 athletes because of three rooms we have booked. But in fact, exactly on the next day in the evening on June 16 according to www.booking.com the hotel was fully booked for 16-18/06. Still I can do nothing, becouse the hotel simply refuse any discussion and don't provide any reason for non-refund. What looks like a violation of all the rules of tourism, and forces me to report to the organizations controlling the operation of hotels in Italy, as well as the Tourism Council of Italy, Como tourist office etc.

When trying to book last-minute reservations in Como, I was faced with he prospect of paying $300+ for accommodations. The only moderately priced hotel was the Hotel Posta Como, at 100 euros. On the positive side, the restaurant was quite good, and the breakfast was as good as one gets in Italy, certainly better than the breakfast we had in Milan at a Best Western. The desk clerk was very helpful, and they held our bags for us all day since we arrived early.

On the woefully negative side, our room had not been dusted or vacuumed since the Eisenhower era, and the mattresses were very old, with lots of lumps. The noise coming from the street kept my partner awake all night. The bathroom is crumbling tile and everything has a vague sour smell. The elevator does not operate between 11pm and 600am, for "security reasons," and one needs to use one's keycard to buzz yourself into the hotel after hours. Vaguely creepy.

That said, given the prices for other accommodations, it's OK for a value traveler.

The rooms are very basic with damp and peeling plaster. The hotel is grubby and that includes the dishes used for breakfast. I had belongings stolen from my room and someone tried to enter my bedroom at 3am, the security at the hotel is terrible. Booked 2
nights but stayed only for one, a lot of people don't stay for the number of nights they booked - a notice on the back of the bedroom door indicates that if you leave before the time stated at the time of booking you have to pay for 3 nights lieu.
