When all the larger hotels in Cremona were filled up--it turned out a big conference was being held in town--I made reservations at the Hotel Duomo. I was a little nervous about the reservation since they didn't even ask for a credit card as a guarantee. But when we arrived at 11 am they were ready for us and had a room available. Fortunately it was on the first floor, because the ride we took up on the elevator the first time was harrowing. From then on we walked. Our room was on the front of the hotel (#19) might have been noisy due to the restaurant downstairs, but with the window closed and AC on, noise was no problem. Plus the restaurant and street cleared out around 11 pm, and the place was totally quiet. The room was medium-sized. I expected something in the folklore style, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a room that had evidently been recently redone--white tile floor, white walls, blond, functional wood furniture. Bathroom also medium-sized.Everything spotlessly clean. The only negative was the lumpy pillows. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent. Breakfast the next morning was a traditional European breakfast with coffee, rolls, and juice. However, other people staying there requested cheese and meat, and were given a large plate of local products. Parking is in a public underground parking garage at 10 euros a night. it was about 150 yards away and was quite convenient. As was the location of the hotel, just down the street from the Duomo--a thrilling sight from our window. This hotel has its picturesque sides, including the three-generational family that runs it. It seems like the real deal, old-style small hotel over a restaurant. We were delighted, and if that suits your expectations, I would definitely go for this inexpensive and centrally located albergo.
