Ostello della Gioventu Bergamo has just been a great host to 36 student travellers from UK (3 nights). The accommodation was very clean and I would certainly recommend this to anyone who needs 'hostel style' budget rooms. All rooms had balconies, most of which looked over the amazing landscape of bergamo. It is a hostel away from the main town, in a residential area, so if you stayed out late, you would need to get a taxi back. (approx 10 -12 euros).
Staff on reception were very helpful, and they all seemed to have excellent English - which put my limited Italian to shame.
Breakfast was: juice, bead rolls, jam & butter, with coffee.
The rooms varied in size (approx 4-8 people shared) with bunk-beds in the larger rooms - linen was also included. They had a shower/WC in each room and lockers were available - small deposit required for key.
Bergamo is a fascinating place to explore, and is an hour away to Milan by train, and slightly further to Lake garda.
If indeed you need to travel on residential trips with large groups of young people/students the hostel staff are happy to arrange coach transfers from/to the airport and for day trips out.
The daytime bus services are good, number 6 get you to the town centre/near train station and number 3 to the ‘old’ town.
I would imagine the hostel could get quite noisy when full of guests, walking down corridors and the general sound of chatting but then what hostel doesn’t? We have stayed @ Ostello della Gioventu before and plan to in the future.
