“Pleasant stay”

The hotel is conveniently located in Santa Margherita. Front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful (assisted us with trekking directions to the Abbey, walking path to Portofino, etc...)

Our room was large and had a nice (albeit narrow) balcony. Not much of a view - but it was still nice to have outdoor space - - we loved being able to sleep with the windows open. The bed was comfortable and at night, the room was very quiet. Most importantly, the bathroom was clean and well-stocked with soaps and shampoo.

Breakfast buffet was good and we enjoyed eating outdoors on the patio. As seems to be customary in Italy, the wait staff was not always pleasant. The offerings and quality of food were very good. We also had supper one evening at the hotel. The bartender was very nice and we enjoyed several evenings sipping drinks in the lobby after long walks to San Fruttuoso, Portofino, and in and around Cinque Terre.

As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is showing some age and wear - but nothing major and everything in our room was in working order.

“Exceptional value in Santa Margherita”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

Our second stay at this hotel - the last one was in 2004. The hotle is an excellent value in a great location - ten minutes from the train station or beach. Excellent breakfast buffet that is replenished quickly. The rooms are starting to show some wear and tear but are very clean.

Beautiful hotel, 5 minutes walk from the beach, great value for the money, opulent decor in lobby and rooms. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would recommend it and stay there again

“Everything was perfecto!”

We found hotels in Italy hit or miss and this was definitely a hit! Was even spacious enough for my 6'3" American husband. Clean, staff were lovely, food was great, parking, more space than most hotels in Italy. We will be back as soon as we can!

“Nice base for Santa Margherita and Portofino”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We were in Cinque Terre for a few days and had planned to spend one day in Milan on our route north. We couldn't bear to leave the scenic and splendid Italian coastline, so we asked our hotel manager to recommend a town along the way. That is how we found ourselves taking the train to Santa Margherita.

Turns out, SM is a lovely town/city. It deserved more time. Lovely shopping/dining district and boating/beaching. This hotel was more than adequate and it felt so authentically european. It was also centrally located and we could walk to and from the train station, though a rather long walk.

Our room was fine and they even came up with a tiny room for our son. Breakfast was very good in a little garden room. The staff was very friendly and gave us suggestions on how to either walk or take the ferry to Portofino. We took the ferry and it was delightful. Portofino should not be missed. It is so beautiful and luxe.

We explored the churches and the shops - advice - BRING MONEY! - The churches were such gems. The views of the sea were magnificent. The water is a singular color of deep, indigo blue. Shopping is really fun and the people-watching is amazing, though it gets rather vulgar at times. If you want to see 007-type yachts, this is your place. Walk up on the paths beyond the town too to peek at the gardens and beautiful villas. We ate dinner at a harborside restaurant which was fun, but crazy expensive. Unless a billionaire yachtsman invites you on deck for a cozy dinner, I would recommend returning to Santa Margherita for dinner as it has several good-looking restaurants. You can take a ferry or public bus back to Santa Margherita, or you can walk, but I wouldn't do that at night as the road is quite narrow in places.
