“Friendly helpful staff-good English!”

We chose this hotel to visit the Chinque terre. We have really enjoyed this hotel, very helpful staff. You can walk into the main part of town or catch a bus right outside the hotel. Easy to get decent priced food not far away. Supermarket close by. We chose a sea view room-'good
Decision! The cinque terra is easily accessed by train about an hour away from the hotel. I would definately recommend this hotel!

“Best seat in the house for a view of the Mediterranean!”

Stayed at Regina Elena to explore Santa Margherita and also as a jumping off point for Cinque Terres and Portofino. This was a PERFECT place to stay. Location wise, I couldn't have asked for more - my room's private balcony had a breathtaking view of the sea, and was quiet and peaceful (set back a bit from the main road). True, it IS about a 5-10 minute walk to most of the restaurants in town and about a 15 minute walk to the main train station, but considering that this is a gorgeous stroll by the ocean, I can't see where all the complaints are coming from. Also, it's only about an hour's hike from Portofino (already halfway around the bend!) which was an added bonus, and a local bus to Portofino stopped just outside the hotel. Rooms were clean and adequate, breakfast was good - overall, a perfect stay.

“Stay spoilt by poor restaurant facilities”

. We had a pleasant, if not too large, room on the front of the fourth floor with a good balcony (table chairs plus two deck chairs and sunblind) overlooking the sea.

As the hotel is out of the town centre we decided to eat in on our first evening. The set meal was priced at Euro 39. The quality of the meal was poor, "hot" dishes were preplated and cold when served. Sending them back brought only another pre-plated cold portion of an alternative dish. The head waiter did not come to ask the problem and appeared to be completly disinterested. The whole experience was exacerbated by the fact that the dining room opened at 7.45 and was determined to shut at 9.00. This was achieved by the waiters laying up breakfast on tables before the diners had finished their meal! It was pouring with rain on night two so, hoping it was blip we tried again. It was worse!

The hotel is acceptable only if you dine out

“Would not choose this hotel again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

Two of the three ladies we encontered on the front desk were very pleasant, the first lady was extremely helpful. We had room 537 which I must say was a tiny room with smells from the kitchen and paper thin walls. As the website said most rooms got a sea view we were very disappointed to get a view of empty villas and a tennis court. The rooms were clean but the bed was very hard and the pillows were terrible they were so hard. The hotel was also a little way out of the main area in fine weather this wouldn't be a problem but it rained while we were there so walking the distance to retaurants was a bit annoying. Internet on your own laptop was 5 euro for 30 mins which we thought was really expensive as when logging on is slow you don't get much for your money. The lift to the 5th floor was very small and slow. I am wondering if booking through expedia gives you an inferior room?? There is also a huge American Bar area but it is hard to get service. Breakfast was nothing special.
