I really loved the Colombo. Apart from the cowhide rug on the floor - yuk - our room 'numero uno' on the third floor overlooking the via Porta Soprana was excellent. The staff were all friendly and chatty, and I can't imagine a better location. The roof-top terrace is a perfect spot to have a couple of drinks while looking out over Genoa. The room we stayed in was especially large and had, as one other reviewer said, a faded charm; huge bed, a couple of old overstuffed armchairs, worn coffee table, and decor that's best described as 'bohemian boudoir'. I've since suggested the Colombo to friends who have all agreed it's a terrific, centrally located hotel.

The hotel's website says the following:


"has been completely

restructurated last December in order to

complish with the most modern exigences of

our kind guests. We have now the privilege to

offer 26 rooms completely new, clean and

equipped by private TV and Bathroom. "

The hotel was NOT completely refurbished... we were given a room on the fifth floor that was drab, shabby that looked absolutely nothing like the photo on the website.
I mentioned to the owner that I feel that he should be honest with guests letting them know that the whole hotel is not redone but he didn't pay me much attention.

It was disappointing as I felt I'd been a bit duped by the info on the website.

Stayed in mid-November 2003. It's a nice personable little hotel in an historic part of the city. Our room was large and had that 'shabby chic' look. There is a lift and lots of good cafes and restaurants nearby.
