“Good location - but has seen better days”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

The Bellevue is ideal if you are arriving by train at Genova Piazza Principe rail station (or by air - the airport bus stops in the square). The staff are both friendly and helpful, but everywhere you look you will discover maintenance backlogs. That said, the hotel provides a good and reasonably priced base from which to explore this fascinating city. Genova stretches along the Ligurian coast and rises into the mountains behind. It is very hilly indeed, and operates at a number of levels. For public transport enthusiasts the city is a must: with bus, trolleybus, metro, rail (standard gauge, narrow gauge, rack), elevator, funicular, and a fascinating cross between funicular and vertical elevator to choose from, the nerd will be in seventh heaven. The system comprehensively covers the city so, while a fair amount of shoe leather needs to be consumed if the place is to be properly known (getting lost in the old city is a must), there's a less tiring althernative for covering the longer distances.

“Average Hotel in good Location”

Windows didn't close properly which caused noise from the streets. bath was very small and not 100% clean. style of the room and bath is very old fashioned. there is no parking, only public unfriendly possibility nearby.
service was very friendly and speaks english. breakfast was okay.
location of the hotel is in walking distance to all sights at the ancient harbour.

“Great location for exploring Genoa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011

I went to Genoa as a spot to visit in between Milan and the Cinque Terre. The Hotel Bellevue was a very convenient spot, right above the train station. Even with a window overlooking the staion, the windows do block out the noise, and the air conditioning kept the room comfortable on some warm days.

The room was fine, not too fancy, but clean and well set up. It was nice to have a mini-fridge in the room. The staff was helpful, and there was always someone who spoke English around. They even provided me with some ice when I asked. The breakfast was fine, and the room was spacious. There was plenty of everything, and maybe not fancy, but good for getting your day started.

With little known about what to see in the city, there were walking guides available, with tours for 1, 2 or 3 days. This was a great location for exploring, and Via Balbi right below the hotel brings you right to the heart of the city. Also, most of the ascensores (lifts) around the city were free, and you can get a great view of the whole town. The one right next to the building, goes up to the Castello D'Albertis, 26 flights up.

Room Tip: Genoa is a gem of a city to explore!

“GOOD VALUE for what you pay.”

We stayed for 4 nights. For a 3* hotel at a good rate we found that things were perfectly acceptable. The room (overlooking the station) was basic, clean, well maintained and not at all noisy: when the windows were closed there was neglible noise -- the occasional whistle from a train. The breakfast was typical continental -- reasonable quality, and although I am not a fan of wrapped processed cheese I can see why it is there. The (machine-made) coffee was o.k., but espresso WAS available on request.
The only things that we did not like were (a) the DREADFUL carpets, especially on the landing and stairs going down to the Breakfast Room and (b) the 2 short flights of stairs before reaching the level of the "ascensore" -- -but then I AM a "wrinkly"!.

“Average, you get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

The best thing about this hotel was the close location to the train station, most people visit Cinque Terre while in Genoa anyway so that's a good thing. It's by no means too long to walk in to the center of town either.

The worst thing was the breakfast. Coffee tasted like crap and so did all the food, except the yogurt. Go eat breakfast somewhere else!

Otherwise it was a very average hotel. Everything worked fine and it was clean and nothing was broken. It's nothing fancy but it isn't pretending to be either.

Quite OK value for the money
