OK, I suppose the hotel doesn't quite cut it compared to modern standards, but when else are you going to get the chance to stay in a 15th century villa with marble staircases and painted ceilings in the bedrooms. Remember to fold in the car wing mirrors as you squeeze it through the narrow gate.
Granted the whole place could do with a bit of renovation (but then so could much of Italy!) and the conversion from old villa to hotel could have been done with a bit more care in maintaining the olde worlde feel of the place (the en-suite has just been partitioned off from the main room with little consideration for the overall appearance). But it was clean enough and the bed was large. Could maybe do with a female touch in the interior design! It could have done with air conditioning though, a ceiling fan just doesn't cut it in the summer and with the window open the railway line passes quite close by.
Breakfast in the garden was pretty good and typically Italian, had particularly nice cake when we were there (coconut cake with grapes?).
Pricewise it was more expensive than some much better bed and breakfast places we stayed at, so it was nice (well, different) for a night, but not sure if I would have been comfortable staying for much longer
It is a place that could be so much better than it is at the moment.
