This is a charming hotel with a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff is very friendly and our dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

The hotel is located on a narrow street in a residential area without many restaurant or culinary options, although there is a "nice" city park within walking distance. The clear highlights of the stay were the staff, who was super-friendly, and our dinner, which was terrific. The not so positive elements worth noting are the following; 1) the pool is tiny, 2) the maintenance of the grounds is not great, and 3) an active train (although not brutally loud) runs about 100 feet from the property.

Regarding Genova: The biggest issue we found, which may have been due to our lack of proper due-diligence, was the fact that the hotel location is not an ideal vacation spot.
The biggest mistake we made regarding our vacation homework, was selecting Genova. First thing we encountered in the middle of the city was a parking meter attendant, who after we asked how to pay for parking, kindly offered to have us pay him to watch our car. Second thing we ran into, in this less than stellar architectural city, was what looked like a swat team, guarding what was clearly a high profile location and individual. Portofino, which is less than :25 minutes away and where we stayed after Genova, was the destination we should have selected to start.

The grounds were manicured beautifully and the staff were expecting us. The elevator was tiny (two of us and our two bags barely fit into the elevator).

Our room was one of two on the fourth floor. Ours faced the ocean straight on. The decorations were a little older but the views from the patios were AMAZING! Even the bathroom had double doors that opened and a patio with views of the side and the mountain behind us.

There is not a beach with sand near the hotel, but one of the staff members gave us the key to the gate and we enjoyed the little boardwalk along the rocky coastline. We even found a little rocky beach where we were able to put our feet in the water and watch the waves and some kayakers!

We ate dinner downstairs on the nice patio overlooking the beautiful garden. Try the Cuttlefish with black pasta if it's on the menu because it was very tasty! After dinner sit in the charming lounge area and enjoy cocktails for a while!
