The location is good for both business and tourism...across the street from Genova Brignole station, and across the road from direct buses into the historic part of Genova. Day trips to Cinque Terra, Pisa and Lucca were easy to plan for leisure.
Inside, the hotel floor decoration is dated and looks a little like a set design Michael Jackson would have used in the 80s. The rooms were a tad too small for two people, but very clean and well furnished. The bathroom was, however, very small. The shower was difficult to get into and had an ill fitted water saving shower head that did not work very well. The bed was good, the windows in the room were excellently sound proofed from outside noise and fitted with curtins that blocked all light for extra sleep.
The reception staff appear to have developed an unfortunate attitude toward the hotel customers and at times it felt like they were collectively going out of their way to be difficult. For example, the hotel has a laundry service, but when I asked about a coin operated laundry nearby the woman at the desk simply informed me that 'These do not exist in Genova.' (Yes, she did understand my question, and she was, of course, passing on incorrect information.)
As a side note, this hotel consistently made the worst cups of coffee I've had anywhere in the world, which is saying something. Otherwise, the breakfast was good. If you have any ironing, you can use the hotel laundry service, or PERSIST with the reception staff...eventually they will refer you to a chamber maid that will show you to an ironing board, but probably only after they've told you this service is not available at the hotel. I should note the rest of the staff were personable: Only the reception desk were a force unto themselves.
