“A great option for Genova”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2011

The hotel has a modern interior although located in the medieval city close to the Waterfront and the Acquarium. Excellent for exploring the old city - at no time did we feel uncomfortable or threatened - even on an evening stroll. Rosa at reception provided a brusque but efficient service on our arrival. Later, Phillip, who spoke excellent English, was friendly, enthusiastic and committed to resolving queries.
Room was modern in furniture and decor but we did not find the aircon effective which meant we had to leave the double glazed window open for ventilation with resultant street noise overnight. Bathroom was equally modern with contemporary facilities - a corner shower but no tub.
Breakfast room was small and could be congested, if busy, but the variety and freshness of the buffet display could not be faulted. It was the best selection of the other hotels we visited in Italy.
Overall, the hotel offered everything we looked for with a good value for money package. We would not hesitate to revisit.

Room Tip: We booked on line through Best Western

“Would very much recommend this hotel and would choose it again should I revisit Genoa.”

20 euro cab ride from the airport.
The hotel is located in a quiet street just off the autostrada, in a great piazza location with a cafe selling fantastic focaccia right next door - take a look on street view.
Very warm welcome in perfectly spoken English on arrival and at all times of the day and night
We had a nicely equipped double room, good bed, with good bathroom wih shower, plenty of towels and an unexpected bidet, floor to ceiling double glazed windows opening onto a juliet balcony with huge shutters, overlooking the piazza. Mini bar, desk and chair and free wireless. Also a free to use PC in reception with printer that the staff were happy to set up for me to print boarding passes for our return flight.
Good continental breakfast, everything fresh, well presented, tidy and plenty of choice
The location is excellent for walkig trips out from the hotel through the old town and sightseeing.
Would very much recommend this hotel and would choose it again should I revisit Genoa.

“Great location and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

We spent one night at this hotel and loved it. We traveled with our 18 month old and found this hotel to be almost perfect: the room was quite big, the staff were very friendly and helpful (their English was good), the room was quiet, Wi-Fi worked without any problems in our room, the breakfast what you would expect in Europe and the location was excellent for visiting the old town and the port. Parking was less than five minutes away and very reasonably priced (make sure you get your discount ticket from the front desk).

For those of you traveling with children: the hotel provided us with a crib for our boy, a place to park the stroller in the lobby, they had highchairs (plates and utensils, too) in the dining room and they even had baby food (plus a cooker/steamer for you do-it-yourself types). Earlier I said that we found this hotel to be “almost perfect” for us. The reason for this is that our bathroom only had a walk-in shower (and a non-removable showerhead like most places have in Europe) and we left our bambino’s portable bathtub at home. The room was large enough to comfortably fit the crib in the room.

As far as a view, if we tried to look out the window all we saw were the neighbors in the building next door. But, let’s be realistic: you’re staying in the old town and are surrounded by buildings. I don’t think too many people living in this area have a view. I am not going to complain because the room did not have a view. Our room was well lit and that is all I cared about.

I have been living in Europe for over a year so I have become accustomed to the scale of things here (before this I lived in Texas where everything is big). With that in mind, I thought the elevator was big enough. At one time we had three adults and two small children in there without any problems. But, again, I am now used to the smaller scale and smaller personal space. Our room and bathroom were quite large by European standards and equal with many of the hotels I have stayed at in the USA.

At home in Europe I park my car about four blocks from where I live (which is not uncommon in European cities) so this hotel’s garage was actually closer to what I am used to.

Would I recommend this hotel? Yes!

“close to lots to do”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

We stayed here just 1 night before getting on a cruise. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in that the front desk staff (phillip) spoke excellent english. He gave us a city map and highlighted how to get to several places of interest within walking distance, which included the aquarium. It was a short, inexpensive taxi fare to the train station and the port for the cruise ships. The room was very small, but ok for one night. The room was quiet, which was a huge plus since I'm a very light sleeper. There was lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. There was free wifi and they even had power converters to borrow. The breakfast was sufficient. Coffee, juices, cereal, yogurt, danish, meats and cheeses. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

“Not perfect, but does a good job”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

The Best Western Porto Antico is a decent choice for a stay in Genoa/Genova. It is located next to the main "tourist" area of Porto Antico with the Aquarium and some tourist shopping. It is also within walking distance of a few other "downtown genoa" tourist sites. It is a short and inexpensive cab ride from the main train station.

Decor for this place is modern/trendy. Front desk/check-in staff are friendly and knowledgeable, although you sometimes had to remind them a few times before things got done (ie: dinner reservation).

Everything in the room was in working order and the decor/color scheme pleasing. Room size is ok but the bathroom was on the smallish side. The shower area wasn't that large either. During our stay, there was a bit of a smell coming from the bathroom which was "sewer-like". Not strong enough to ask for a change of room but enought to be noticed at times.

The complimentary breakfast offering was good and fresh. I would not say that this was the "best brekfast ever" but it did the job and staff in the "restaurant" were very friendly and accomodating.

As far as views, the hotel is in a small alley and most of the adjacent buildings do block any views that would be possible - which means that the room itself was "dark" most of the time.

Speaking of small alleys, the hotel is near what some would qualify as a "least desireable" part of town. Let's just say that you could easily guess how some women made a living for themselves. The place itself is not dangerous but can make some uncomfortable. Interestingly enough, the small alleays are better lighted at night than they are during daytime!

The hotel lobby has a computer that one could use with internet access (complimentary)
