We were expecting a hostel however when we were finally shown to our room it was up a huge hill quite a way out of the main village and in some ones house. The guy was very rude and confronting when he realised this was not what we had expected. That night we awoke to bed bugs galore and many many bites in the middle of the night, it was the worst experience ever!! We finally managed to track down the owner the next day (the reception is a small shop on the main street where he seems to choose what times he is there) in the evening as we had booked for 2 nights but there was no way we could stay there again. He claimed he did not know about the bed bugs but there were so many they must have been there for months, if not years, other people must have been affected. After some substantial effort we managed to get most of our money back but it was definitely not worth it!!

Before all, the person who runs this hotel is a crook which is why he asks for everything in cash. We were 4 and called to book 2 rooms and were not told that we would be given 2 rooms in a 3 person house which meant sharing with another couple. This included sharing a bathroom. The owners used to live in this house but have not cleaned out the closet and so all of the closets were still full with clothes that smelled really bad. We also asked him for a location in the city and were given this house completely outside. When we went to pay our bill (he takes your passport to ensure that you go and pay), I expressed to him very politely why we were disappointed and was met by an evil demon who attacked me and who wasn't at all capable to listen. I would sleep on the street prior to returning to this place. DON'T DO IT!

I booked this hostel for me and my friends for late April, but since it was going to rain in the Cinque terre we decided to wait some weeks and we asked the reception to postpone our booking to may 22nd. They guy on the phone said it wouldn't be a problem and that they had plenty of rooms available, so he just scheduled our 5 beds room for may 22.
Well, yesterday we got there and he was like "I remember you, but I have no rooms available". He wasn't even that sorry, and he was actually really rude! Since we paid a small amount when we first booked the room through hostelsworld.com in april, we asked him if we could have it back, or if he could at least write us a note to show hostelsworld that we wanted our money back since we got to a booked place that had no rooms for us and he yelled at us, swore and then just left us alone with no room.
I would never recommend this hostel to my worse enemy.

This was a very inexpensive place that my friends and I stayed in for one night. We booked an 8-bedroom door, but we got a 3-bedroom house. Our room only had 5 beds (3 twins and 1 double), another room had three beds and the other room also had 3 or 4 beds. This was not a problem, but it was very unusual especially since there were no workers staying in the house with us. There was only one bathroom for everyone in the house. By the time I finally got to use it, there was water all over the floor so it was rather nasty. The shower is very old and kind of grungy. Also, there is no air conditioning, but they did provide us with a fan.

The climb to the house was very hard and should not be attempted with a suitcase. Even the backpackers were huffing and puffing. The view from the top, however, was amazing! If you are coming in after dark, there are very few street lights so a flashlight (torch) would be a good idea.

We didn't actually spend much time in the room. If I were staying for more than one night, I would try to find somewhere else to stay. The walk between the 5 towns is amazing and a must-do if you are staying here. Riomaggiore is a beautiful place to stay, and a great place to start from if you are hiking between towns.
