“Centrally located but not at all NH style”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

I know quite some NH Hotels and like their modern and clear style. Therefore I booked this centrally located NH but really was shocked when I saw the room: The room was absolutely oldfashioned nineties styled and run-down - far beyond the usual NH style. The water from the bath tub didn´t run, the purple hangings were ruined and the carpet was worn out, the huge toilet bowl seemed to be from 1960... As I learnt only the rooms on the fifth floor had be renovated so far.
The reception and restaurant were modernly equipped and offered a delicious international breakfast buffet. Positively was also the service-orientation of the receptionist Anna.

“Good service but needs building upgrade”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

The hotel is right in the center of just about everything in Trieste: the train station, the port and Piazza dell'unita d'italia and even Trieste Cathedral (15 minute walk). Service is excellent with employees everywhere more than willing to please. However, the rooms need work with bathrooms that have mildew. No irons in the rooms which is a bit annoying if one wants to press one's own clothes.

“Very Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2010

Formerly a Jolly Hotel, it's now operated by NH Hotels, and we found the quality of the service in line with what an international chain may require from this Hotel.
We booked a superior double, which was huge, modern and very confortable (perhaps a bit too hot, though it was winter, to tell the truth).
Location-wise, great: literally 5 mins from all the hot spots. Bfast was also very good.
You tend to be a bit of an anonimous traveler in such big hotels, but the service was very attentive and the stuff (Piergiorgio in particular, if I got his name right) really did the extra mile.

A well appointed hotel in the heart of a wonderful city

“Overated, low quality, low service hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2009

Old, dingy, moldy hotel of the lowest quality. The room (an "upgraded" superior deluxe) was so small you had to step over the desk chair to get to the other side of the bed. The room was a sauna with the heat turned off and the hotel informed us after the first night that the A/C is not turned on until June. As it is located on the main traffic road in Trieste you cannot sleep with the windows open.

The bathroom was tiny and the hot water ran out after 5 minutes. The "breakfast" was sub-quality. For crying out loud, you're in Italy and they're using an "automatic" espresso and capuccino maker that tastes like dirt and water?

What was most irritating however is that we booked this property directly with the hotel through its sister property in Padova and were confirmed at 120 Euro a night. At check out, they informed us that AFTER we left Padova, they had called back and changed the rate to 200 ($265) Euro a night and that we had to pay that rate as the Padova hotel confirmed it.

This place is a complete ripoff. You would get better quality service, rooms, sheets, beds, pillows, towels, etc. at a Holiday Inn or Best Western - p
