Very poor quality of facilities and service, which is disappointing given the generally reasonable quality of NH hotels elsewhere in Europe. Among the many small inefficiencies and problems, which add up to make a poor overall experience, I found the following:
- the safes in the rooms do not work
- no free power sockets (have to unplug lights and tv to plug in devices)
- old CRT TVs take up a huge amount of desk space
- wifi is a very expensive extra
- paying for wifi only allows connection of one device
- for business meetings only 35 connections can be made to wifi
- room upgrade scam to get extra money at check-in with 'free minibar' gives you access to an almost empty minibar (this is the first time that I have seen a minibar with no wine)
- paper-thin walls mean that you hear everything from your neighbours, including a toilet
adjacent to the headboard of the bed
- impossible to get to the reception desk to check out if you are part of a group.
This is also probably the only place you can get bad coffee in Trieste. This city is the centre of the world coffee trade, you can smell the stuff all around the port, and there are many cafes selling excellent coffee. This hotel contrives somehow to serve up disgusting brown liquid at breakfast and at business meetings.
