Located a kilometer up the hill from the waterfront on a grimy street, and no place to eat nearby at night except for a greasy kebab shop. Earlier in the day there are a couple of bars and a pizza cafe near the church, that's about it.
Strange hybrid decor, with a 1960's lobby, mostly pink marble. Old-school steel keys on a dangly toggle thing. Tiny elevator, equally tiny rooms.
The "old Italy" feel stops in the rooms which have been recently refurbished to a fairly good standard, although the beds are a bit soft. My bathroom was extremely small yet colleagues reported larger bathrooms in their smaller rooms. The shower cubicle was tiny yet had good water pressure and heat. There was a large blue glass sink imposing on the space in front of the toilet. I thought this was a terrible design until it was pointed out to me that should a guest be suffering gastro, you could easily puke into the sink whilst destroying the toilet from the other end.
I guess there had to be some small detail to recommend the place.
No gym, no pool. No lobby bar. Not a bad breakfast, with some range of cakes, croissants and fruit. One morning they had melon which was really rather good but the next day they just had some second-rate apples and rock-hard nectarines. I am sure one could do better in this city.
