“We didn't like it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

We booked this hotel to celebrate an anniversary. One of the conditions of the booking was a non-smoker room, but they gave us one impregnated with smoke, whole room reeked with it: the curtains, the bedspreads, the carpet and the chair. Moreover, the room was tiny; there wasn’t space for the suitcases. The bathroom was very small as well. We asked for another non-smoker room, but the receptionist told us that the hotel was overbooked. We left all the windows opened during the day, but the room still smelled. There are a lot of good hotels in the neighbourhood of the hotel, choose one of them, not La Gradisca!

Colourful small hotel, cozy atmosphere, helpful and smiling staff. A perfect location just a few meters from the beach of Marina Centro, the nicest part of the city.

“Fine art and cinema memories by the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2009

Great place inspired by the Fellini art.. it's very different from the hotels I have been before! In front of the beach with a reserved area for guests and close to downtown. The staff is friendly and professional. A very good experience, with all I needed. I'm not usual to 4star hotels but sometimes is nice to have such comforts. Suggest to everybody!

Posto fantastico insomma :) e se c'è di mezzo un pò di cultura e gusto artistico pure meglio! Consigliatissimo

“Small but ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2008

We've spent a week at this hotel from the end of July till the first days of August. I've booked a double room for two people for about 900 euros.
When we got there we've been told that there're no double rooms available so we'll get two single rooms. Since we were there with a friend, we didn't mind, but if I was with my partner I would have been quite a bit pissed I guess. Their promise was that we'll get a double room in a few days, as soon as one becomes available. It just didn't happen during our stay.

The hotel is in a pretty nice location, about 2 mins walk from the coast - however it doesn't have its own beach unlike many hotels, so you'll ned to find the one that you like and pay for the beds/umbrellas (4/7 euros/day).

The single rooms are very small, it's just a queen-size bed, a small minibar (which hardly can keep the drinks chilled), a cupboard, a small table and the bathroom. Alltogether not more than 10 sq. m, and if your suitcase is a bit bigger than the average you'll have a serious problem getting around in the room.

The room itself was clean, with an LCD tv and with the standard Mercure channels. A/C was equipped in the room and it functioned perfectly - only that the cleaning lady used to turn it off so when we got back from the beach it used to be quite warm in the room.
The bathroom was also small, but clean. The fan was quite noisy though.
There is no safe in the room, so you need to ask the staff at the reception to keep your valuables there if you wanna leave them - I'd advise you to do so, since on the beach it's not safe to have valuables with you.

There is Wifi connection in the room, but I'd say it's rather expensive with Swisscom. 10 euros for a 60 mins, 17 euros for a 24 hours ticket, which starts in the moment of your first login.
I'd expect a four star hotel to have gratis internet at least in the main lobby. Besides it was quite slow (512 kb).

Since we went for half pension, we've had the chance to eat in the restaurant of the hotel. I can honestly say, don't go for it if you have a choice.
I've been to quite a few Italian places before and this place sucks. You better just head out to the street and find loads of places to have a nice meal in, but the meal in the restaurant of the hotel is not nice at all. It is eatable, but it's definitely not that nice. The portions are small and not that tasty, I've had a feeling that the minced meat used for the bolognese sauce was not really fresh.

The parking of the hotel as such is just a few parking places painted on the street at the backside of the hotel. There're about 6-8 places tops, if you really squeeze the cars. If you have a long car you'll have trouble with its back being too much on the street (as I've had with my BMW E60), since at most of the places you can't move close to the wall since there're some lampposts for the flood lights of the sidewalls of the hotel.

The staff was always nice and helpful.

So to summarize all - I'd give a good 3 star rating to this hotel, but not better.

  • Liked — the location, close to the main street and the beach
  • Disliked — the bad food in the restaurant

“Great location in Rimini for beach, shops & dining!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2008

We liked the position of this hotel and wanted to stay in this area. Lucky for us the hotel had great specials on at the time and we took advantage of one of them! We were hesitant to stay here as not all the reviews were positive; however, we had a very good experience.

ARRIVAL/DEPATURE
We found the hotel easy to find, we arrived by car. We arrived using the Bologna/Taranto autostrada (for the last part) and took the Rimini Sud (south) exit. We followed the signs to the water and there was the hotel a short drive along. We found the option of street parking or the hotel has private car spaces located behind the hotel. We took advantage of the hotel spot as they were available. For our departure from Rimini we returned to the same autostrada, easy to find again with clear signage.

RECEPTION/RESERVATION
Reception staff were very friendly, approachable and attentive. An incentive at the hotel during our stay was to vote for the staff member with the nicest smile and service. Voting forms were given to us and after filling those out we placed them in the box next to the elevator. In the elevator the staff member’s photo and name is displayed! Great to see a hotel have such an incentive as each staff member we encountered really tried to leave an impression. We made the reservation direct with the hotel using the website and all was in order on arrival. It was very efficient and quick to check out. For 69 euro we had our room and breakfast in the rate which was a great special.

ROOM
Our room had two double beds in it. We had read earlier TA reviews mentioning small rooms and asked on check in for a big room (following previous advice). The rooms are not large however they are well equipped. We used one bed to store our things and the other for us (very comfortable). It worked well. There was ample wardrobe space, TV with satellite channel, safe, phone and nice balcony with view. There was a small mini bar also in the room. Electronic shutters closed the balcony to offer privacy and security. Air conditioning in the room did not work so well and we reported it on departure. The weather was good so we could leave the balcony door open with the shutters down. The room and bathroom were very clean. The bathroom seemed brand new to us! In it there was a corner shower with sliding door (box), WC, bidet, basin, hair dryer, and hanging space. Excellent water pressure & hot water supply. The amenities were; shoe cleaner, shower cap, hair/body wash and hand soap. They were replaced each day.

FACILITIES
The restaurant is located just next to reception and breakfast was included in our room rate. The staff member was ready on hand to prepare the coffee of our choice. We helped ourselves to the buffet breakfast available. Small selections of different types of cold and hot foods were available. There were newspapers available to read in the restaurant area. There was a swimming pool just off reception to use with sun chairs and close to the elevator.

AREA
Outside the hotel is the core of the Rimini beach area. About 100m walk to the lovely long esplanade to walk along and of course use the beach establishments. Walking left from the hotel past the Ramada on Viale Vespucci Amerigo are shops, bars and restaurants as well as right, along Viale Vespucci Amerigo the STANDA supermarket and a few steps further the post office. In front of the hotel on Piazzale John Fitzgerald Kennedy is a great little Indian restaurant we enjoyed a meal at. There is also the bus stop and of course the beach! We visited the Rimini port & port canal area that is always nice to walk around where the little light house is too. We also made the short drive to visit the Republic of San Marino, thirty minutes away. Well worth the visit as it is a beautiful mountain based town!

  • Liked — Location to shops, restaurant and the beach!
  • Disliked — Not the largest room layout however the extra bed was convenient!
