“lovely gem of a hotel in center of Parma”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

What a really good find - thanks to previous TripAdvisor listings. We were heading to the Mont Blanc Tunnel from Florence and it was late in the rain when we were near Parma and needed to find a hotel. They were very helpful, booked 2 rooms over the phone to arrive 1/2 hour later. The Hotel is in the old town, down a small one way street. Dont forget to ask for the traffic charge for driving in the old town to be annulled - which they do at reception with no problem. You have to use a public parking (10E for 24 hours) and the one way system is horrendous - dont leave the map in the car after parking, like we did!!
The rooms were huge and we thought very cheap at 100E a night. The restaurant next door was also lovely too.
Quiet, comfortable, cheap and right in the center - what more could you ask.

We didn't pre-book a hotel for Parma, so stumbled across Hotel Button and decided to book. The location was close to lots of restaurants and stores. The hotel is basic and I wouldn't describe it as modern. The room was very no frills. The bathroom could use some updating. The shower was more like a drip, not so good. The hotel said internet was included, but we were only able to get it to work at the top of the stairs leading to the lobby. Breakfast was included in our room rate. The breakfast was good, standard choices; cereals, yogurts, bread, croissants, cheeses. The hotel also has a parking garage a couple of blocks away.

“Where else would you want to stay?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2009

Parma has few hotels near the center, and if you will be visiting Parma to enjoy the heart of the city, the Button is your obvious hotel choice. It's not a bad place at all - clean and modern and kept up if not exactly updated or posh. But you'd choose it entirely because of its location, not its charm.

The Button seems to survive on its reputation; it is recommended in travel books, and it does not partner with any online reservation system or website - why would they need to, because where else would you want to stay? To book it, you have to call or email them. (They didn't require a credit card to hold a room.) They now have a website but only in Italian (you can probably figure it out); an "English Language" website version does not work - use Google to translate if you must.

The Button has wireless internet throughout the hotel, but while I stayed, the access point near my room was not reliable. I could not use the wireless in my room when I arrived in the afternoon so had to go to the lobby where it worked fine. I told the front desk guy; maybe he fixed it, because later in the day the wireless worked in my room, until the next morning, when it would not connect again. But it always worked in the lobby.

The rooms have individual air conditionters, but mine did not work. I complained about this and was lectured about how to use the thermostat...but it was set right, and never worked, and by the last time I complained about it, I was told...and anyway, it was almost October, so why would I want air conditioning? True, it wasn't hot outside, but it did get warmish in the room, and you don't want the windows open while you're trying to sleep because you can hear noise from the scooters and such...and it can get loud outside from all the socializing (big party in the streets til midnight when I was there). I slept with windows shut - they do a great job of keeping out the noise though - but without any blankets or sheets on me. Not a huge problem, but point is - I found the front desk attitude a bit irritating.

The hotel is extremely easy to reach from the train station by bus: just take the #8 bus (buy tickets at the Tabacchi shop or pay extra on the bus) toward Piazza Garibaldi and walk just a few meters to the hotel; there are two signs pointing to the hotel (see the attached pictures) just as you get off the bus.

Parma is a wonderful town, not much to see but a great place to visit, eat well, stroll around, and escape the parade of tourists you find elsewhere in Italy.

“Great location, nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2009

This hotel has to be in about the most central location of Parma. The hotel is off a little side street just off of the central piazza. The room was very nice, but did not have a mini-fridge. But the staff was just fine about giving me ice whenever I wanted it. They did have a computer with internet connection available. Breakfast included only cold/dry foods, but that is very typical of most hotels that include breakfast in the price.

“Nice hotel, great central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2009

Booked the Hotel Button via internet for our one night stay in Parma, as it looked like a central location. We drove into Parma, and even with a GPS and signposts leading us to the Button, we missed the hotel twice before finally turning down the correct alley. Also, there are only a few parking spots behind the hotel, otherwise one must find street parking (good luck) or go to the public parking garage, which is about a 10 minute walk away. However, once the car is stowed away, the Hotel Button is right in the heart of the city and next to a pedestrian street with tons of restaurants and bars. Our room was probably the most spacious room we had in our week in Italy, very big with a good sized bathroom. Shower was good. Bed and furniture were nice, more in the traditional style. There was a nice sitting area outside the room, and wireless internet access in the lobby. Would definitely stay there again if returning to Parma. Good value.
