We booked this hotel online on the fly while already on the way to Parma. We just needed a place for one night, the location seemed good and the rooms looked nice online! All I can say is "big mistake"! We should have taken the clue from the dirty rundown looking hotel facade and turn around when we got there. The "deluxe room" on the top floor, for which we paid 180 Euro, looked absolutely nothing like the pictures online, it was small, a bit smelly with a tiny bathroom, not very clean, had worn carpet and old worn furniture.
Since it was already pretty late when we got there (and the room non refundable), we decided to stick it out for the one night. The breakfast was not worth any mention except for the service, which was extremely slow and borderline rude.
To our surprise, we realized upon checkout that we were charged an additional 35 Euro for parking, even though the Front office clerk confirmed upon check in that the hotel parking fee for one night was 15 Euro. We tried to reason with them and have the charge corrected, but the hotel refused. Instead they told us (in a very obnoxious way) that it was our own fault because we had reserved the parking spot while booking the room online, and the online fee (for that very same parking space) was 35 Euro and not 15 Euro. Just ridiculous!
Well, we paid and left with the promise to ourselves to actually READ the tripadviser reviews in the future, so we won't end up at another tourist trap like this one!
On a more positive note, Parma is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy and the late dinner we had at Pizzeria Don Alfonso was incredible, grazie for that.
