Wanting to go to Parma was solely based on food (as it should be). We were on our honeymoon and though the honeymoon was a 2-week trip, we had no plans outside of Florence our arrival city and we're going to live by the moment. Decide on a whim "let's do __ today" and Parma was a destination we decided to try. We wanted to try "the best" prosciutto and parmesan cheese, who wouldn't?
Since we didn't book anything sooner, one of the only hotels open was the hotel palace maria luigia. It is definitely not a honeymoon hotel - so unless you have to stay here like us, I am not sure it's worth a honeymoon trip. Parma IS. This hotel isn't.
The hotel is average at best. I wouldn't say horrible, because the location is good and the breakfast is decent. However, the staff isn't the most friendly and the rooms are not nice. For 300euro for 2-nights, the price was quite disappointing. The room is very run down; they have no AC, and the bed is HORRID. It's 2-twins pushed together but they are at least 10+ year old mattresses. We were in room 203 and if you like you're sleep; do not stay in this room. My husband who is 6'4 and doesn't sleep well as is..had the worst night sleep of our honeymoon. The bed is too small and actually makes you lean into the middle.
