Stylish hotel with beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Some of the older reviews don't really do justice to the hotel in its present state as it has recently undergone total refurbishment. The hotel staff are very helpful, the breakfast is very good and there is an excellent choice of restaurants in the vicinity. It is about 10-15 minutes on foot from the railway station or five minutes by taxi. Central location (though not facing the park) just five minutes from Piazza Grande and the wonderful medieval cathedral (il Duomo) and campanile (la Ghirlandina) built mainly from the pink and white marble recovered from the remains of the Roman city, with the two historic buildings together classified as a UNESCO world heritage site.
This hotel would be a good choice when visiting Modena and in addition it is only about 15 km by bus to Maranello where you can visit the Galleria Ferrari with its stunning collection of beautiful automobiles that is well worth a visit. In addition in the city centre you might want to buy some Parmesan cheese and/or balsamic vinegar (you should ask for: aceto balsamico tradizionale) at the Gastronomia Giusti in Via Farini, a delicatessen that has been serving fine food since the 1600s, with a very fine restaurant in the back room (just ask at the counter) and next door the Bar Giusti where you can go for a great coffee and later for a light lunch, while admiring the facade of the Palazzo Ducale, that housed the city government in the days when Modena was an independent state, now the home of the Accademia Militare. Another attraction in the city centre, less than 100 metres from Piazza Grande, is the covered market in Via Albinelli, with a wonderful display of fruit, vegetables and cheeses and so on. To round off your trip you might be lucky enough to get tickets for the opera at the Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti, within walking distance of the hotel.
