Great hotel. I stay here on business every year and it's a great hotel. Location is very nice, staff are great, restaurant for breakfast and dinner is excellent. Rooms are superb and great for the business traveller. For me as I stay in over 30 different hotels on business each year this is in the top 3 no question - taking into account price, location and service.

Modern very clean easy to get to from the airport. Rooms very nice especially the executive ones. Very good restaurant attached to the hotel but it gets very busy, excellent Italian food.
Breakfast average.

Great for fairs and exhibitions, not so good for sightseeing.

Good things first:

The small room was spotless and elegant, the old house is lovely, the few staff were friendly, food was very good and the setting - with an overgrown orchard out the back, delightful. The bar was pleasant, and served complimentary snacks in the evening.

Now the grouses:

As far as we could tell, our hotel club Platinum membership was not honoured with its complementary upgrade, even though the hotel was two-thirds empty and there were bigger rooms available with a better view.

Although we had paid our deposit by American Express, the hotel tried to make an issue of Amex not being available. It took several days of negotiation before they processed the card through their sister hotel, which could have been done manually on the spot.

Staff loyalty was towards the Class Hotel brand of the sister hotel - a brand we do not know - rather than to the IHG group and Holiday Inn.

The shuttle bus, advertised online and in printed material available in the hotel at the time of our visit as "on request", was not available. We would not have stayed here had we known. We were sent to use the local public transport. As a direct result we missed our return stop in the dark one evening and ended up in a most unpleasant town square full of Saturday night disaffected youth, where we were rescued by a delightful black lady while a young white man yelled abuse at her. Not fun.

The garden needed a lot of work - more than seemed explicable by the fact that it was just emerging from winter.
