As a part of out holiday in Italy, we stayed 6 days at Monte del Re. This hotel is really charming and filled with atmosphere, and has only 38 rooms. The perfect getaway for couples. It's placed at the hillside with a breathtaking view over the valley.Nearby there's a lot of wineyards, and only few minute drive to the nearest town, Dozza.
We stayed with our kids (age 12 and 15). Only some of the staff speaks english, all information, such as eg. menucard is only in italien. The restaurant at the hotel does not offer special menu for kids, but they do have a wonderful homemade pasta. But it's not possible to have ketchup for the spaghetti to the kids. I would say, that the restaurant is not for kids. The restaurant at the hotel is also a bit pricy - we payed 154 euro for 4 times pasta (but it did taste wonderful), 2 coca cola and 1 bottle of redwine (not an expensive redwine).
The pool is wonderful, very big, and has a magnificent view over the valley. Ice crem for the kids at the pool costs 8 euros.
We stayed in a junior suite, which vas nice, but I think it's only the size of the room, that makes this a junior suite. The interior is very ordinary, and the bathroom is very small. The bed didn't have any comfort, and the pillows was lousy - I mean really lousy.
Our kids stayed in a twin room. The twin room has 2 big beds and a magnificant view over the valley. If you want to go, book a twin room, because the double rooms has no view at all.
I would recommend this hotel for couples for a romantic getaway (but be sure to bring your own pillow). I think we will come back at some time, but without the kids, and with our own pillow, and in a twin room (the junior suite is not worth the ekstra cost)
