We stayed here for one night in October 2005 and found it to be a most wonderful hotel, where we enjoyed an absolutely sumptuous dinner in the restaurant with magnificent service. We plan to stay here again when we return in November 2006.

I spent a weekend in Monte del Re with my husband and two more couples; it is a wonderful place to explore Emilia Romagna region. The hotel itself is very nice and comfortable, helpful staff and nice and warm restaurant and breakfast room. The most remarkable thing is the place where the hotel is situated: over a hill with a nice landscape surrounding it. The village, Dozza, is also very pleasant. So, in general it is a highly recommended place to stay and it would be better during the summer with the nice swimming pool opened.

The only unpleasant thing was a not very nice sewer smell in the elevator and corridor of the second floor probably due to the humid atmosphere during rainy winter.

We only stayed overnight in this hotel and arrived rather late in the evening, but we were made very welcome and had a lovely room with a canopied bed and luxurious bathroom.
The restaurant was fairly expensive but we chose the 42 euro menu and it was excellent. The wine is reasonable. The restaurant seems to be owned by a different owner than the hotel, so you have to pay separately.
Being September the hotel was very quiet and rather characterless late in the evening, but I can imagine that in the summer, it must be lovely on the terrace by the swimming pool as the views are magnificent.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a special break in a very peaceful location. It is fairly expensive but good.

Looking at previous reviews, we must have stayed at an entirely different hotel! You will need a car, but it is very central to visit other areas eg, Venice, Rimini, Bologna. Taxis not ordered from the hotel can rip you off as a couple of other guests found out.....so beware!
We had a fab stay in a wonderful, clean, large suite with wonderful views. I can agree that a couple of members of staff can be surley, but the majority were pleasant and helpful. Beware if you dont have any comprehension of Italian.....they do not speak english! but guaranteed experience of real Italy away from the usual tourist traps.
We found a wonderful Pizzaria Restaurant at the bottom of the hill in Toscanella.......2 course dinner with wine, beer and water for two was 20 Euros, and the food was fantastic. We only ate at the hotel 1 night and it was very pricey, approx £50 for one starter, one main meal, a shared sweet plate, and 2 glasses of house wine! Drinks at the bar are VERY expensive, the local supermarket sells wonderful, local wine at 90pence per bottle!
The pool area is clean and has very heplful lifeguards, who provide you instantly with lounger cushions and towels. Overall fantastic stay
