We stayed in Bologna for just 2 nights and this provided the a good base at an affordable rate. The rooms are small but decor is bright and modern. Views are a bit industrial. There is free internet access in reception which we made good use of when deciding where to eat.. The reception staff (especially Simon) were brilliant and really went out of thei way to assist. Breakfast was just okay and we were not tempted by the dinner menu. Easy free parking on site. The city centre is about 30ish minute walk away or just catch the no 25 bus. Taxi would be about 10euros to the centre.

We (a mid 30’s couple) stayed in the Alloro suite hotel for 4 days in Early Aug 2010. Whilst we had nothing really bad to say about it, we had nothing great either!.

It is a brand new shell in an old building located about 25-30 walk from the Centre (and we are brisk walkers). We walked to and from town on numerous occasions and felt safe although there was one park nearby that we kept on the other side of the road – just in case! Parking was also available and was in front of the hotel (and free?). There is a regular bus from outside to the centre (1 euro for 90 mins travel in bologna) but as the main area is a maze of one ways, it picks you up elsewhere on the return. Reception did give us a map but it was only a photocopy from google maps or something similar (how difficult is it for hotels to get the official ones as you get in the tourist information!)

The hotel does have a collection of loan bikes which were a bonus and free to borrow. Bologna is very much setup for cycling and quite safe. However, the bikes are not well maintained (faulty brakes, no saddle adjustment, low pressure in tyres, no lights) which is a shame for what should be a great asset to the hotel.

I do not believe it is 4 Star hotel – just a new 3 star one. Newly refurbished room with clean bathroom with decent shower. Not overly big but what would one what the room for? As previously stated, not sure what the hotels credentials are for an “Eco Hotel” as they changed the towels everyday – even if we didn’t want them changed!

Breakfast was standard continental “help yourself” – cereal, rolls, yoghurts, pastries, cheese, sliced meats, juice, coffee and tea. As has been reported, if you get there late (breakfast finishes at 10am) you will not have a great selection.

In all, if you did get a good deal (we paid about 35 euros per night per room), I would recommend this hotel but if you want just a 5 min walk from your hotel to the centre, this is not the place for you!

We had one night in Bologna and wanted to stay at a place that wouldn't break the budget, but would be convenient, especially since we had our 9 month old with us.

The Alloro Suite Hotel fit the bill perfectly. It was amazingly cheap, just $70 or so/night for two fine rooms (one for us, one for our au pair). The rooms were spacious and clean, with very large and well-appointed bathrooms. The neighborhood was just that - a neighborhood - with no tourists, but the historic section of Bologna was a 10 minute drive, at most.

The front desk staff were casual, to put it mildly. They spent a good deal of the time on the phone, whether helping other clients or talking with friends, we couldn't stay. But we were able to interrupt them for some truly helpful service: an off-hours espresso from the kitchen, directions to the historic district, and a recommendation to a local restaurant.

The breakfast was really terrific for the price. Good variety, a lot of healthy options, something for everyone.

Finally, while you're in the area, don't miss Ro'Coco Restaurant, about 1.5 blocks away. The clients are almost entirely locals, the food is amazing, and the prices are low. The hotel staff will point you in the right direction. The house white is cheaper than water and really good; the pizzas are crisp, the pasta perfect.
