“One night stay in blizzard conditions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed at this hotel when the heavy snow hit Italy in early February. It was a late Internet booking so that we could be that bit closer to Bologna airport for our flight out the following day. Through the reviews read on Trip Advisor we selected it for its excellent location in the heart of the city while also it was offering a tremendous deal, which was too good not to accept.

We arrived at lunchtime when the snow was pitching down and following our satnav had little trouble finding the hotel. The trouble was, though, that some of the back roads were impassable so that we ended up on the main street which, we did not know at the time, is a no-go area for cars but which was very close to the hotel. On telling reception this, we were advised to move the car as quickly as possible to avoid any fines and take it to one of the recommended car parks a short distance to the hotel. The benefit was that the car was kept undercover rather than be buried under the snow if it was parked in the open.

The hotel itself is boutique. The room was very modern with a low bed, fairly spacious wardrobe and drawers and a desk. The bathroom had a very good shower, no bath, and was quite spacious.

If there was a fault with the room it was that it was too hot and there was no way to turn the temperature down. While welcoming when coming in off the cold street, by the middle of the night, I found myself wide awake as I was perspiring with heat. I did open the window but that did lead to a pretty nasty draft, so the lesser of two evils was to close it pretty quickly.

The breakfast area was very well appointed and quite different to any other hotel while the continental style breakfast offered a good selection of food.

The biggest asset this hotel has, though, is its very central location. While the pavement (sidewalk) was virtually impassable due to the incredibly slippery conditions, it did not stop us taking long walks around the immediate surrounding area to window shop from the really fabulous range of shops there.

“Warm and stylish hotel in excellent, central location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Situated in a quiet side street off one of the main streets in central Bologna, this hotel is a real find! We arrived in bitterly cold weather and were relieved to find the hotel was warm, beautifully decorated and staffed with really helpful people. Actually, our very large room turned out to be far too hot and for some reason the heat couldn't be turned down, but they moved us without argument and the next room was fine.
I would stay here again like a shot, as the location is so good, especially if you want to go and see the collection of Morandi's!
We arrived by taxi from the airport (about 20 minutes ad about €20) but it is also close to the main train station and another time I would consider travelling by train between cities rather than having the hassle of a hire car.

“My home in Bologna”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I have stayed at the Metropolitan three times over the last two years and always get a warm welcome from the staff. My last visit was for 3 nights starting on 1/25/12. When I arrived they told me that they had my favorite room which is a room in the back courtyard. Same room as my last stay. Very nice breakfast every morning with a good selection. Great location in central Bologna. Free WiFi. The staff makes the difference for my high rating.

Room Tip: ask if any of the courtyard rooms are available.

“Perfect place for an Italian weekend getaway.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend and couldn't recommend it any more highly. From the moment we arrived and received a lovely Italian welcome everything was perfect.

The rooms were very clean and a good size, and the location was perfect just off the main street and couple of hundred metres from the main square.

We arrived late on the Friday and claudio provided a great pizzeria recommendation around the corner that if you were walking past would never stop at.

All the staff were extremely helpful and provided great recommendations and directions for the weekend.

Another big positive was the free wi fi which is always handy and a lovely breakfast both mornings.

Would definitely stay again!!

“Excellent location, wonderful hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel from 20-22 January during a recent weekend trip to Bologna. We chose the hotel based on location and it did not disappoint. We were less than 5 minutes from Piazza Majjiore and within a 20 minute walk to anything else that might be of interest to a tourist.

We had a superior room on the first floor (room 111, I believe). There was a separate small living room aside from the area with the bed. The room was spotless and very comfortable with lots of light if you open the shutters. As the weather was quite cold outside, we spent a lot of time in the room, which we loved!

The hotel itself is very trendy - it has a very stylish lobby and breakfast room. The breakfast was great - lots of food and separated into small portions. The fruit was very fresh with great variety, the pastries were delicious and there was a variety of juices, yogurt, bread, meats, etc. There were even little desserts like macaroons, etc. The breakfast staff was very cheerful and helpful. They even make you lattes or capuccinos at no extra cost (note: you do have to pay extra for the breakfast when you book your room but it is worth it).

Overall the staff was very helpful. The gentleman manning the desk on Saturday and Sunday afternoon was really nice - he helped us book a restaurant for dinner and gave us great pointers, like where to catch the bus to the airport (instead of paying for a taxi). The nighttime reception staff was a little less helpful (we asked for assistance in replacing a lightbulb in our bathroom and he did not really want to help so we went without).

Overall, a great stay and I would certainly recommend this hotel to others!
