Me and a friend stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and loved every minuite of it! Admitedly when we turned the corner onto Via Metana we thought the hotel was going to be a dump because it didn't look that good, however, we were pleasantly suprised.

The reception staff were helpful and when we got to our room on the 3rd floor it smelled lovely, was clean and had all the usual amenities you would expect from a 3* hotel.

Our room was at the frnt of the hotel with lovely Italian balcony and shutters.

I know people have been complaining about the bar underneath the hotel but I must admit I didn't hear much from my room and when we tried the bar I must say that it was the cheapest in town that we could find - EUR8 for a JD Diet Coke and a Lager, the same round was EUR14 elsewhere.

Overall I cant fault the University Hotel as a 3* hotel and I would reccomend to my friends.

Ps - Do not eat in the restaurant called Diana on Via Del Indenpendza - it was expensive, crap service and shocking food and wine.

I agree with an earlier review regarding the bar underneath the hotel. I stayed there over a weekend and the noise not only from the music but from people on the street is unbearable.

It's a shame because University Hotel is in a good position with nice rooms at a good price but it just isn't worth it. I was told by the staff it was a Saturday night occurance but on Sunday night they were playing music until 330am and it took an hour for the crowds to clear afterwards. This left us with 2.5hrs sleep before catching the bus to Forli.

The office manager was helpful and went to the bar three times and they would turn the music down for 20mins before starting it up again. She also informed this has been going on for a while so there is no sign of it stopping

Bologna is a gorgeous city but this hotel definitely ruined the experience somewhat.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights at the end of February. The hotel is easily reached from the airport bus. Room was very warm despite very chilly temperatures outside. Staff very friendly and prices very reasonable. BUT BEWARE: do not accept any room on the first floor above the bar below (non related to hotel). They are open till 3 am and play thumping music (on a loop) throughout! After the first night's complaint we were fobbed off by week-end staff saying the noise came from somewhere else in town, it was carneval etc. etc. The second night was hell and we complained strongly. The week-day staff (very charming man)immediately gave us a room on the second floor at the opposite side of the hotel and apologised for his colleague's unhelpfulness. Apparently, there have been perennial problems with this bar and the local authorities had been involved - to no effect so far. Stay at this hotel for location, cleanliness and price, but refuse rooms above the bar.

The university hotel is a very good value choice for 3 star rated accomodation. Very clean, friendly & efficient service & management, ideally located in the heart of the vibrant student quarter but just 10 mins pleasant walk to Piazza Maggiore & 5 mins to Airport Bus stop. Added bonus is that the excellent Osteria Della Orsa is just next door.
