“Unparalled hospitality and staff”

we arrived late b/c we had lost our way and all five of us were extremely hungry having been to anxious to find the hotel before we lost our reservation. The chef was just closing the kitchen and the manager convinced him to reopen to quickly prepare something for us. Was the food that was quickly prepared good? What is Bologna known for if not the food! It was amaaaazing and so lovingly prepared. We were on the way to Pisa, so early in the morning we were able to take advantage of the continental breakfast-again lovingly prepared and plentiful in variety and be on our way.

“Comfortable but bulk standard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

This hotel is somewhat like an airport hotel - functional but with no soul. And it isn't the cheapest deal in town. Note there are 2 Unaway Hotels in Bologna so make sure you book into the right one. The newer one is across the street from the train station (on Via Pietramellara). This older one (Fiera) is further north, about 10 min taxi ride away.

“Above average Holiday Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2007

We, a family of four with two children aged 8 and 13, stayed in a family room for one night only mid July 2007.

We've stayed at Holidays Inns several times before so were prepared for a small room in a clean, efficient, business orientated hotel. This is basically what we got - with the added bonus of excellent service, a good sized outdoor pool and a great breakfast.

The hotel is located a couple of kilometers outside the old town, we drove in and it took a couple of minutes, but you could walk (long and boring) or take a taxi or public transport, it's straight down the road. It's in a business area and is surrounded by office buildings just off the main road, but we had no problems with noise or anyone overlooking the pool (surrounded by trees).

Service at reception was great. It's a business hotel and we stayed at a very quiet time, but the staff spoke great English and were helpful with all our various questions.

As expected, the "family" room was small, with two smallish double beds, and it was fine for one night, but way too small for a longer term. However, again, as expected, it was clean and had all the facilities (nice bathroom, TV, internet, minibar), so no complaints here.

The pool and surrounding area was large and clean and they provide an efficient poolside service (towels etc.). There are, apparently, other facilities like a gym, but we didn't have time to use these.

Breakfast was very good. We had a large hot and cold buffet with everything you'd expect from a good four star hotel, and fast and effiicient service. Again, there were only a few people at breakfast and this may be one reason for the high standard of service, but we certainly were very impressed.

One of the better Holiday Inns, definitely, and recommended for singles or couples. OK for families as long as you don't stay too long. May well return here, you can always get a good rate on the hotels website and Bologna is a charming city.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2007

Great hotel, located 1.5Km out of town, an easy 15 minute stroll into the centre.
Highly competant friendly staff and reasonably priced. The outdoor swimming pool was a bonus.
Nothing too much trouble for the staff and just a 10 Euro cab ride from the airport.

“Very Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2007

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting our son at the University. The staff were universially friendly and helpful. To begin with, they all spoke English which was great because we didn't know any Italian. That characteristic would have been enough to rate them highly. However, they all were also incredibly helpful and cheerful despite being busy. We came away smiling even after asking them the simplest question. The other aspects of the hotel were fine as well. It is a business hotel so you don't get elegance and it's located in the business district, but everything seem very new, the bed was comfortable and weren't woken up by noise. I also made use of the exercise room each day which was equipped in a similar fashion to those in the States. One very minor quibble would be to turn the treadmill around so I didn't have to watch TV in the mirror. Note that it is not within walking distance of the downtown area. However, the bus ride into town was very straightforward and they ran very frequently. It may seem strange to stay in a Holiday Inn while in Italy, but the people at this hotel couldn't have made us feel more welcome.

  • Liked — The incredibly friendly staff
  • Disliked — The treadmill wasn't facing the TV in the exercise room. ;-)
