“Ok Hotel in terrible neighbourhood”

This hotel is located about 20 min away from the city centre, in a run down area which is completely full of graffitti and dog poo, in the evening/ night it is very intimidating, we did not feel safe walking to and from city centre when all the business in the area closed. The hotel itself is in need of updating and would not classify as value for money unfortunately despite being best western chain normally very good.

“Nice Hotel, quiet area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2008

I initially planned to stay in Rimini, but the hotel I wanted was booked out so I booked Re Enzo at short notice and headed for Bologna instead. The Re Enzo is situated close to the Via San Felice, which is the main shopping street leading up to the 2 Towers. We walked into the centre of the town each evening, stopping at small Chic bars to soak up the atmosphere. A Taxi from the Centre is only 5 Euros and there are numerous tax ranks. The Cocktail bar in the Hotel opened at 5.30pm and Gave us a free drink and 'eat all you want ' italian tapas. The bar is very pleasant.
The staff could speak enough english to get buy. The hotel has a restaurant, just round the corner it was unhurried and very cheap, however there are better restaurants in the centre of the town. The breakfast was cold continental. Not bad by Italian standards. The air conditioning didn't work, maybe its turned on later in the year. The staff were very well mannered and friendly, and the bar prices cheap. The hotel was clean. I felt this was a family run hotel and provided the authentic italian experience, which I wanted.

  • Liked — Cocktail bar provided free drink and tapas
  • Disliked — Air conditioning didn't work

“Skip Bologna It's a horrible place!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2005

The basics of the hotel were adequate, but not exciting. The no smoking floor was a plus when booking, but the door to the bar downstairs was always open, so the placement of the no smoking floor on the 1st level up was useless with everyone smoking in the bar. The room, however, did not smell of smoke. The night spent there was sleepless. At 2am there was a car "sideshow" outside. Cars peeling out and racing down the street. At 3am screaming was heard from somewhere outside. At 4am the neighbors across the street in the apartment building were blaring music so loud I thought it was coming from my own room. The city was dreadful. We arrived at 8pm to find all of the stores and restaurants closed already. Yes, even the restaurants. The city known for good food and our choices were Mcdonald's or snacks left over from my previous travels. Walking to the two main squares seemed unsafe. We were approached by strange young men waiting in a dark alley as we turned a corner near the main square. I truley believe we would have been mugged if we didn't turn around immediately. This place felt like an inner city in America. It was nothing like the rest of Italy that we enjoyed so much. Please, don't waste your time in Bologna. (December 2004)

“Wholly average!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2003

The Re Enzo is a good 20 minute walk from the centre of town. It's in a dimly lit and slighty intimidating area. The rooms are average, clean and supplied with t.v satellite. Decor firmly trapped in early 80's. Limited room service available.Good underground parking facility.I'd only come here again if I was on expenses!
