Le Torricelle is a quirky, endearing agriturism in the Le Marche region of Italy, near Urbino. Old stone houses that once were home to agricultural workers have been restored and updated over a nine-year period by a group of Bavarians who live there and farm the land. They rent out a one-bedroom apartment, a three-bedroom, two-story apartment and a small house that accomodates about nine people. The whole group of houses is on the top of a hill with incredible views over the green hills of northern Le Marche. These are housekeeping facilities, so if you want breakfast it is extra. And if you ask ahead, Suzanne will cook you dinner in the large dining room. There is a pool and multiple outdoor terraces. If you wish, you can join them in gardening, beekeeping, herb gathering. Or you can just sit and drink in the view. Suzanne was helpful in planning our daily excursions to nearby hill towns.
Meals include vegetables and herbs from their gardens, honey from their beehives and liquers made on the premises. We were there in May, early in the season, and were the only guests, but later in the summer they told us people need to reserve ahead. When we were there the pool was not yet filled. This is not a luxury place. You are expected to carry out your own garbage, and there is no daily maid service, but unlike some agriturism places, you can rent for two days and up, rather than only for an entire week.
You are not walking distance to town, and need a car to get around. We ate at a wonderful restaurant in nearby Lunano, La Gatta, but it is only open on weekends. There are other restaurants in towns five or ten minutes away.
I would say this place is for the more adventurous traveler who enjoys staying someplace unique. It is definitely not for the traveler who is looking for luxurious toiletries and mints on the pillow. But it was clean and comfortable, and OH, that view!
