This is a simple, lovely, clean hotel that should be toward the top of every list for all visitors who intend to visit the captivating, charming city of Urbino. It's right across from the Duke's Palazzo. It's in a lovely old building. It's great.

I recently stayed at the Albergo San Domenico on a bicycle tour across Italy. This was my second visit to Urbino and the Albergo, and I was looking forward to a pleasant stopover in this most beautiful hill town. My room was on the fourth floor, and was very spacious with a view over the rooftops toward the mountains I would be riding. Breakfast was one of the main considerations when biketouring and the generous spread of fresh fruit, meats, cheeses and a hot plate all overseen by Enriqua made the morning hour a real treat. I spent the day exploring as the weather wasn't up to my standards and had another quiet night's rest before heading off the next day. When I reached Gubbio that evening, I discovered that I had left my cell phone charger in my room. When I called the Albergo from my hotel, Simone answered and graciously arranged to mail the charger to my home address. Thanks for a great stopover and a recommendation to all travelers to check out the Albergo San Domenico next time they are in Urbino!

There are personel cuts everywhere in Europe but when the hotel is 300 $ a night the least you can expect is to someone to help you with your luggage. No sir, you have to carry your own. When you look in the web you see that the hotel is in the center of Urbino and when you open the windows you are going to have the view of the Palazzo Ducale. This is not the case the front part of the hotel belongs to the university of Urbino and all rooms (ours was a superior room) have the view of the parking lot. Rooms are big and roomy and not very clean but the bathroom reminded us a little of the communist era Bulgarian bathrooms, all blue tiles and small. Although the ammenitys were ok. Breakfast was all supermarket fare and the out yard that you had your breakfast is smack in the parking lot. Coming to Urbino, a university town that does not have the charm of Tuscany and the thematology (virgin Mary and Jesus)
tires you.

Hotel is in an ideal location: directly across from the Duke's palace and walking distance to everything. We had a very large room overlooking the car park (which was good, because there is less noise than on the street side of the building). Also, they have a car park! Very unusual in cities like this. Breakfast was quite good and they had tons of options. Unfortunately they are terrible at frothing milk for cappuccino, although very friendly and quick with it. Also they have a nice small lounge area outside with tables, chairs and a few big comfy papa san chairs which are great for lounging in in the afternoon with a book. However, they often took the cushions off of them and took them inside, even without threat of rain. So that part was disappointing. Too bad the hotel didn't have a pool or restaurant, but you can't have everything, I guess.
