The hotel is great! The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful.
This was appreciated as the drive in was absolute hell! If you are driving through Tivoli, brace yourself. You have a better chance of seeing God than finding a parking space anywhere in the whole city, and the roads are narrow and very busy with cars/mopeds/pedestrians, and, as with many old towns, the street layout was meant to be walked, not driven.
Finding the hotel was difficult for us. You will eventually come to a rotary with some parking (full, of course) in the middle of it- the hotel is on a small alley off of this. Be careful not to get shunted onto the road that travels along the edge of the hillside and out of town, because it is tough to turn round from there.
If you are lucky, there may be a small space available right in front of the hotel. Once you park, I'd recommend you use your car as little as possible during your stay. Most of the downtown and the Villa D'Este and Villa Gregoriana are within walking distance, anyway.
Also, as you start to enter the town, don't be discouraged by the drab, project-like cement block housing housing you drive through. Tivoli is worth seeing, though it doesn't hit you over the head with its charm right away, as many other Italian towns do.
The balcony in our room was worth it all! You are across from the Temple of Vesta and next to a beautiful, green gorge (the Villa Gregoriana). It was like a portal to another world.
The room we had was fine- small, but bright and clean. Public areas of the hotel are interesting. Be sure to see the grotto downstairs at breakfast.
The area around the Temple of Vesta (which you see from your balcony) is nice for walking and has a couple of decent restaurants. These streets are fairly quiet, gaslit, and have an interesting (dare I say romantic) atmosphere. Downtown in the squares is a louder, more lively scene. Both are a short walk from the hotel.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as the place to stay in Tivoli. Have a good time!
