“Try to get a refund...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2007

I booked a room for May 2007, but am unable to make the trip because my travelling companion injured her foot. The reservation confirmation asks for a cancellation to be made 7 days prior to the day booked. I have been notifying the hotel for more than 2 weeks and have yet to receive acknowledgement or a refund. I have e-mailed several times and have faxed, but to no avail.

“Not the views we expected, but adequate.....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2006

Had some trouble finding the place because the street and directional signage was turned the wrong way at the intersection where you have to turn onto the road taking you to their location. We drove several miles past our turn before realizing we must've missed it. (Not the hotel's fault.) When we arrived early at 12:30 pm, our room was not ready, but we were told it would be ready in 20 min., so we got our bags from the car (no porter) and had lunch in their ristorante while waiting. We requested a jr suite with view of Villa Adriana, and got the 1 suite fitting that description, but the view of the Villa was non-existent because huge pine trees block the view from the windows facing the Villa. The only views were of the house & yard nextdoor where one of the owners lives. The room looked as if it had been dusted only, not vacuumed, and a damp rag had been run over the bathroom fixtures. Had to request towels because there were none left by the maid. The bedroom was quite small and they should consider knocking down the wall between the sitting room & bedroom to enlarge it. The bathroom lighting was extremely poor and insufficient for shaving or makeup, so makeup had to be applied where the light was best---in the sitting room. The carpet should've been replaced years ago, and the dreary, dark, heavy window curtains also need to go, altho they do block out light and sound at night. The best thing about this place is the food in the ristorante. Had 1 dinner, 1 lunch and 2 breakfasts here. Can definitely say it's the best restaurant within miles, so don't bother walking to dinner to a nearby ristorante -- they are there but pale in comparison to the menu and quality of food at this place. Service is also not the best unless you have a reservation for a meal. Even tho we were guests, we found it difficult to be seated for dinner because we did not make a reservation, and there was a dinner meeting of local lawyers going on in one of their dining rooms. All hands were taking care of the lawyers leaving only 1 server for the main dining room guests (15+ tables). Also was never able to access internet on the 1 computer used by the office mgr because there was some kind of firewall system set up on it we couldn't get past. I'd recommend this place for a great meal, but that's all.

  • Disliked — Numerous problems --- see my review
  • Tips/Secrets — Stay for the food & proximity to Villa Adriano only, otherwise if being across the street from the Villa is not important, find another place to stay.

“Great location!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2006

We spent a lot of time trying to find the place! The website's directions could be more explicit as to WHICH motorway one should be leaving when following directions: **As soon as you leave the motorway turn right towards Tivoli, then go straight on for about Km 1.5 and take your first right (Via Rosolina)following directions to Villa Dell'Imperatore Adriano. The Hotel is just in front of the Villa entrance.** We were on the wrong motorway (GRA) to have been following these directions. Perhaps we were being ignorant.

Because the prices at the restaurant were a bit steep, we saved it for a special evening but were nevertheless disappointed. Although armed with a dictionary, and trying VERY hard to communicate and ask questions, the menu gave few clues as to how each offering was going to arrive. "Fish and potatoes" was the description. It took twenty questions to find out it was cod. Great. I get nowhere asking how it is prepared - grilled/baked/fried? When I ask hot or cold? Cold is the answer. Although I have to admit the raw fish was served cold, raw is not what I had been expecting. The local corner pizzeria did a better job with customer service and quality of food.

Comfortable bed, sumptuous bathroom, couch cushion missing.

In the mornings we waited an unusually long time for the waitstaff to find us to serve us coffee in the breakfast room. We are patient people, but this was ridiculous.

The town was charming and the Villa D'Este and Hadrian's Villa were what brought us there to begin with, so we were happy for having traveled to Tivoli.

“It's not my dog”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2004

We spent one night at the Hotel Adriano about a week ago. The rooms are okay, nothing remarkable. The charge for a single room is excessive (90 euros) for the level of room. The main problem we encountered here was the barking dog who obviously lives at the hotel, as she has well worn spots in front of the hotel. That's fine, but we had to put up with barking and howling at 3 a.m. I finally got dressed, went downstairs in the dark to a dark reception desk. I banged on the bell and then heard the person from the room next to ours clomping down the stairs. She came through the lobby and said "I put out now" and turned the dog out. Then in another half hour, the dog was back barking to get back in the fenced area. The person in the room next to ours (which has all sorts of personal items on the balcony as though a permanent resident lives there), clomped back down and let the dog in. When we complained in the morning, the hotel staff said, "It's not the hotel's dog," and removed a whopping 3 euros from our bill.On another note, the restaurant there and the breakfast served in the morning were fantastic!
